Description Of Duties/Essential Functions
Under general supervision of the Shift Commander (PSA), instructs and
supervises Correctional Sergeants, Correctional Officers and Correctional
Officer Trainees; enforces and maintains discipline, safety, security,
maintenance, sanitary and custodial measures for the control of offenders;
monitors compliance with Department Rules, Administrative Directives and
Institutional Directives.
Minimum Requirements
Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion
of four years of high school and completion of an approved Correctional
Officer Training Program; requires two years experience as a Correctional
Officer in a penal or security institution; requires thorough knowledge of
institutional rules, regulations and requirements for the control of offenders;
requires working knowledge of individual and group attitude and behavior of
offenders in the penal or correctional institutions; requires working
knowledge of methods and techniques used in discipline of employees and
persons in correctional institutions; requires working knowledge of practices
and procedures in prison administration; requires the ability to climb, bend,
stoop, run, walk and stand for short or extended periods of time; requires a
valid driver's license; requires ability to properly use firearms.
