What are the responsibilities and job description for the Heavy Equipment Operator Highway/Transfer Station position at Town of North Stonington?
Employee must be able to perform all duties in operation of heavy equipment to include operation of tractor trailers on Connecticut highways. Employee may be required to work in a lower class position on occasions as needed for Dailey operations. Employee is required to keep town’s equipment if good operating status to include general Dailey maintenance (greasing / washing) and reporting of any defects. Employee must be able to work all hours of the day, holidays, weekends, multiple days in succession due to weather related events and be willing to work in in-climate weather. Employee must be able to complete tasks with little supervision and be able to complete daily assignments without direction.
Location/Hours:
This is a Monday through Saturday position (Saturdays are required).
Tuesday through Friday 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM (location Highway Dept, 11 Wyassap Road, North Stonington, CT)
Saturday 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM (location Transfer Station, 215 Wintechog Hill Road, North Stonington, CT)
Qualifications:
Applicants must hold a valid CDL Class A license with a good clean driving record, valid medical certificate. Applicants should have experience in the construction and/or driver’s field. Applicants must have general knowledge of Connecticut and Federal Motor Vehicle Laws with the operation of a commercial motor vehicle.
Applicant should have experience and/or general knowledge of the operation and/or lubrication of tractor trailers, bull dozers, loaders, excavators, and various hand / power tools.
Applicants must be able properly to lift, push, pull or move up to 100 pounds, shovel, rake, wash and grease equipment, climb in and out of vehicles on a Dailey basis.
Mechanical experience of equipment and/or welding experience preferred but not required.
