SUMMARY
Patrols the public beach area to monitor activities of beach patrons, to promote safety and to prevent illegal conduct. Duties include educating the public, warning swimmers of potential dangers, rescuing distressed swimmers, responding to emergencies, administering first aid, reuniting lost and found beach patrons and enforcing ordinances.
Although pre-registration is not required, candidates are strongly encouraged to sign up for the test by visiting JoinBeachPatrol.com and selecting the tests that are most accessible and meet your availability. The Beach Patrol requires acceptable proof of age of all candidates which can be a driver's license, birth certificate, or U.S. passport in order to be eligible to test. In addition, applicants must be 17 years old and those under 18 must be accompanied by a legal guardian during the entire testing process.

Job Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Provides education, prevention and intervention to ensure beach safety.
Observes activities in assigned area from tower or on foot, in vehicles or from personal watercraft to detect hazardous conditions such as swimmers in distress, disturbances, or safety infractions.
Cautions people against use of unsafe beach areas, prohibited activities or illegal conduct.
Rescues distressed persons from ocean or adjacent areas.
Examines injured individuals, administers first aid, and monitors vital signs.
Administers CPR or other procedures to revive injured persons.
Compiles emergency and medical treatment report forms and maintains daily information on weather and beach conditions.
Enforces local ordinances and rules governing activities on the beach and in the water.
Communicates with fellow SRTs to coordinate response to emergencies and rescues.
Operates switchboard or two-way radio system to maintain contact and coordinate activities between emergency rescue units.
Operates vehicles and personal watercraft as needed.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES : None. May assist in training probationary employees.
Minimum Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS - To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE Previous experience as a lifeguard desirable but not required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS CPR & basic first aid.

LANGUAGE SKILLS : Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with those seeking service and to issue intelligible warnings and directions to the public and fellow workers.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS : Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY : Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
