What are the responsibilities and job description for the Recreation Leader, Part-Time, 19 hrs/week position at Town of Oro Valley?
Under general supervision, plans, organizes and facilitates camps and programs for the Town of Oro Valley.
- Plans, organizes, implements, and facilitates recreation camps and/or programs for youth, teens, adults, seniors, and/or special need populations.
- Leads participants in recreational activities and assists with supporting, planning and organizing said activities and events.
- Promotes and provides information to the public regarding recreational activities.
- Maintains event and program records, files and attendance.
- Develops promotions and publicity materials for program activities.
- Facilitates agreements with outside agencies for facility usage for recreation programs and special events.
- Coordinates with Town Departments for legal consultation, facility usage issues, and programming necessities.
- Purchases and orders equipment/supplies.
- Responds to customer service and safety issues as they relate to recreational programs.
- Completes reports, timesheets, cash receipts, incident/accident reports, and other administrative paperwork according to established protocols and procedures as required.
- Implements Department policies and procedures.
- Supervises the day-to-day activities including communicating, scheduling work, training, evaluating, and motivating staff.
- Manages the development and maintenance of instructor and program documents.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written communication.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Knowledge of activity or event planning practices and techniques.
- Knowledge of management and/or supervision principles and possession of strong leadership skills.
- Knowledge of record maintenance.
- Knowledge of, or ability to learn, Town and Department policies and procedures.
- Skill in organizing and executing activities and events in the Parks and Recreation Department.
- Skill in teaching and instructing youth, adults and families.
- Ability to organize work, set priorities, meet critical deadlines and follow up on work assignments with minimal supervision.
- A high school diploma or GED.
- Two (2) years experience working in a recreational or youth activity environment
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Work is performed in an indoor and outdoor environment.
- Work may be performed at various locations.
- Regular, daily attendance is an essential function for this position.
