JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary/Objective
Under the general supervision of the Operations Manager and through considerable individual initiative, the Fleet Superintendent is responsible for managing the operation of the Town public works garage and fleet by overseeing and completing repair and maintenance of Town vehicles and equipment in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, and manufacturer’s specifications.
Essential Functions

•Professionally and respectfully supervise fleet maintenance division personnel.
•Responsible for procurement, preventative maintenance, repair, parts inventory and disposal of Towns vehicle fleet, equipment, and tools.
•Maintains work records pertaining to current and future work assignments.
•Directs annual fleet inspection requirements.
•Oversees inspections of and general maintenance to Town fuel tanks and systems.
•Coordinate with Department administrative staff for maintaining Capital Plan for Town fleet.
•Specifies build and up fit of Department fleet vehicle orders.
•Interacts with various Town staff and Departments in coordination of Town fleet maintenance.
•Works according to safety regulations and maintains a clean and safe work area.
•Participate in other Public Work operations as required including, but not limited to, snow and ice operations.
•Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibility
Oversee all personnel and activities of the Fleet Maintenance Division.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is exposed to a variety of extreme weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is highly active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift or move items up to ten pounds and occasionally lift or move items up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Ability to use and wear personal protective equipment and clothing such as hearing protection, eye protection, foot and hand protection, and respiratory protection.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time benefit eligible position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., 40 hours per week. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Required Education and Experience
High School diploma or G.E.D. required; 10 Years of experience in repair and maintenance of vehicles and heavy equipment. Additional Eligibility Qualifications: (ability to obtain)
•A valid state driver’s license with CDL Class B and Air Brakes endorsement with no active violations within the previous three years.
•Class 2B and 1D licenses
•Class C UST Operator
•Massachusetts Hot Works Certification
•ASE or EVT certification preferred.
•Certified Welding Supervisor preferred.
•Supervisory Training preferred.
Work Authorization
