THE OPPORTUNITY
Are you looking for a new opportunity to join a small, collaborative, grounds and facilities team? Then apply to become our Public Works Technician (working title of Landscape and Irrigation Technician) in support of the Town of Paradise Valley’s (Town) mission to provide high-quality public services to a community that values limited government. The Public Works Technician (working title of Landscape and Irrigation Technician) for the Town performs a variety of semi-skilled and manual labor duties, repairs and maintains public streets and associated rights-of-way, landscaped medians and grounds, including operation of light to medium motorized equipment and power tools.
More specifically, the Public Works Technician (working title of Landscape and Irrigation Technician):
- Performs routine landscaping, including weed control, pruning bushes and trees, and repairing irrigation systems on public streets and right-of ways.
- Performs a variety of maintenance tasks associated with the repair of streets and works with a variety of construction materials including asphalt, gravel, and concrete.
- Operates a variety of light to medium power tools, equipment, such as jackhammer, chainsaw, tamping machine, air compressor, pickup truck, trailer, street sweeper, dump truck, loader, roller, water truck, aerial lift truck, backhoe, and other equipment utilized in the construction, maintenance, and repair of streets and other infrastructure.
- Performs routine maintenance and repairs on Town buildings including plumbing, electrical, and carpentry work.
- Performs operator maintenance as needed on vehicles and equipment.
- Performs duties on-call (24 hours/day, 7 days/week) as scheduled throughout the year.
- Posts notices and checks right-of-way permits.
- Maintains daily work records and compiles lists of to-do items.
- Investigates and resolves resident concerns or complaints.

THE REQUIREMENTS
To become a Public Works Technician (working title of Landscape and Irrigation Technician), the Town
Requires:
- A valid class D Arizona driver’s license.
- Candidates be 21 years of age at the time of hire.
Prefers:
- An Arizona class B commercial driver’s license with a tanker endorsement (will be required within 6 months from hire date).
- An Arizona Department of Agriculture applicator certification for weed control (will be required within 12 months from hire date).
- A high school diploma or GED.
- One year of full-time street construction, maintenance work, or irrigation and landscape systems work, involving the operation of light to heavy motorized equipment.
- Related experience in a local municipality.
