Recreation Services is responsible for the everyday operational tasks at Plainfield Recreation and Aquatics Center. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, working at the Front Desk, supervision of Playworld, supervising programming activities, assisting party and reservation events, and general cleaning and upkeep of facility and grounds.


- $1 an hour increase when working from Memorial Day to Labor Day

- $1 an hour increase when working on Saturdays and/or Sundays

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  1. Greet and direct visitors in person and on the telephone while answering program questions efficiently and accurately.
  2. Maintain and promote excellent guest service relations and open communication with children, parents, patrons, and staff.
  3. Point of sale and membership sales processing.
  4. Responsible for the collection and security of all recreation registration and admission revenues.
  5. Schedule and reserve facility and park sites for guests.
  6. Maintain a clean, safe, and friendly environment in the indoor playground when assigned.
  7. Conduct daily walk/crawl through inspections of the entire play structure including completing all checklists and operational duties when assigned.
  8. Communicate and answer basic program and facility questions
  9. Resolve basic conflicts regarding guest registration issues, facility rules and program limits.
  10. Oversee recreation program operations and ensuring safety and security of participants.
  11. Maintain a working knowledge of all general and building safety rules including specific knowledge of front desk operations, Playworld operations and basic knowledge of fitness and aquatics areas. Enforce safety rules and improve public and employee knowledge by preventing, confronting, and correcting unsafe behavior.
  12. Perform other related duties and/or special projects including but not limited to, general cleaning and disinfecting of facility and equipment, basic grounds maintenance and serving as guest service attendant when needed at fitness control desk as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education and/or Experience: Previous recreation and/or customer service experience is preferred.


Other Skills and Abilities: The following skills and abilities are either required or desired.

  • Computer software skills desired include: Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Rec Trac.
  • The ability to make sound and rational decisions including exercising independent judgment within established protocols and guidelines is required.
  • Must have a strong ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing regarding service information and public relations.
  • The ability to interact with all levels of employees and guests.
  • The ability to be detailed oriented to be able to process information accurately.
  • The ability to develop and maintain a comprehensive knowledge of current principles, codes, and safety protocols and risk management relating to recreation facility operation and programs is required.
  • The ability to enforce rules and follow all established protocols and guidelines is required.
  • The ability to operate a computer, printer, copy machine, scanner, fax machine, and other office equipment is required.
  • The ability to speak, read and write in English is required. Spanish is desired.
  • Ability to make sound and rational decisions including exercising independent judgment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather); fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; and outdoor weather conditions. The employee frequently is exposed to work near moving mechanical parts; and extreme heat (non-weather). The employee occasionally is exposed to work in high, precarious places; extreme cold (non-weather); and the risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.


While the RAC is open from 5:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, this position may require work beyond these hours and on holidays.

Salary : $13 - $15
