Job Summary
Town of Porter is seeking applicants to fill the position of Office Assistant who would assist the Town Clerk, Treasurer, Code Enforcement Officer, and the Planning Board. Office responsibilities include assisting with the following: collection of taxes, respond to taxpayer inquiries regarding taxes, preparation and execution of motor vehicle registrations and transactions, elections, issuing birth and death certificates, marriage licenses, dog licenses, absentee ballots, and game licenses. Responsibilities for assisting the Code Enforcement Officer include pulling tax card and CEO files, making copies, scanning, emailing, and filing in dual file cabinet locations, in order to re-create and coordinate Code Enforcement, Local Plumbing Inspector, and Tax Card records from 1987-2019.
Responsibilities for assisting the Planning Board include attendance at monthly meetings during the 3rd Wednesday of each month, record minutes of the proceedings, and performing administrative duties in support of the Planning Board.
This position requires public contact, the handling of money, a high level of professionalism, a positive image, and the ability to handle a multitude of tasks to ensure the public is served efficiently and effectively.
Prior experience in a professional work environment; working knowledge of computers and software including WORD and EXCEL; the ability to handle sensitive issues involving the public with tactfulness; customer service skills and telephone experience. Preference may be given to applicants with prior experience working with Municipal and State systems such as TRIO and MOSES.
Hours to assist the Town Clerk and Treasurer are Tuesday 9-6PM and Wednesday 9-2PM.
Hours to assist the Code Enforcement Officer are Wednesday 2-6PM.
Hours to assist the Planning Board are on the 3rd Wednesday of each month from 6-9PM.
More hours may be available, not to exceed 25 hours per week.
