The advertised salary range provided reflects the full compensation spectrum for the position classification. The anticipated hiring range for this role is $69,140.87 to $84,346.85 annually. The actual salary offered will depend on various factors, including skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training, and internal equity considerations.

JOB CLASSIFICATION SUMMARY
Positions assigned to this class are responsible for performing, leading and overseeing the work of staff engaged in examining the construction, alteration, or repair of commercial and residential buildings to ensure compliance with building codes and ordinances, safety, and zoning regulations.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is a lead level construction inspection classification in the construction management job family that requires advanced technical knowledge and skill in the technical/functional aspects of assigned role. Work involves planning and coordinating work assignments and the modification of established guidelines and the initiation of new approaches.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
The following are intended to describe core work functions of this classification. While the level and broad nature of essential duties may not change, specific work tasks will vary over time depending on the Town’s needs.
- Serves as a formal lead to staff; schedules staff, provides communication from management to work unit, delegates and monitors workflow.
- Performs complex commercial, residential and fire inspections; provides complex technical advice; prepares resulting inspection reports.
- Prepares inspection schedules; reads and interprets plans and building codes; provides statistical numbers on inspections to staff.
- Meets with contractors and homeowners to resolve disputes relating to building codes and interpretation of codes.
- Provides assistance to contractors, builders, designers, and architects in the development of alternative ideas to meet code and ordinance requirements.
- Promotes building codes and departmental programs and services to the community.
- Maintains accurate records and report of daily inspections, including notes and writing correction notices left on-site.
- Works in a safe manner and reports unsafe activity and conditions; follows Town-wide safety policy and practices and adheres to responsibilities concerning safety prevention, reporting and monitoring; operates and maintains Town vehicle in a safe manner and performs daily inspections; documents maintenance defects and malfunctions.
- Performs related work as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (at job entry)
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or GED and 5 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of directly related education and experience. Associate's Degree preferred.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position has been identified as a safety-sensitive position by Human Resources, per State and/or Federal Law. Upon conditional offer of employment, the candidate selected will be required to undergo testing for alcohol and controlled substances within twenty-four (24) hours of the offer.
