Shifts Needed:
     Morning availability 5:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.  (1 vacancy)
     Mid availability 10-4 (2 vacancies)
     Closing availability 4:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. (1 vacancy)

Interviews will be taking place Wednesday, April 16, 2025. Once you have completed the application, if timeslots are still available, you will be offered an on-site interview. Tentative start date end of April 2025/early May 2025. 

JOB CLASSIFICATION SUMMARY
This is the third level in a broad recreation series. Incumbents are responsible for overseeing activities of average difficulty at an assigned recreation center, community center, recreation site, or program. Generally, incumbents perform assigned tasks independently and are responsible for a recreation site or program during their assigned shift. Under general supervision, employees monitor and implement recreation activities and are required to exercise initiative and independent judgment in planning, organizing, and conducting activities. Work schedules vary and typically require working during the evenings, weekends, and holidays. 

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This classification is distinguished from the Recreation Leader I and II classifications by the incumbents leading other part-time staff during recreation events and programs, training, and overseeing recreation activities. This classification will act as the manager on duty of an assigned recreation facility/site and requires strong leadership and a comprehensive understanding of recreational programming. Depending on the assignment, a Recreation Leader III reports to a full-time staff member.ESSENTIAL DUTIES
The following are intended to describe core work functions of this classification.  While the level and broad nature of essential duties may not change, specific work tasks will vary over time depending on the Town’s needs.

  • Performs the essential functions of a Recreation Leader I and II.
  • Provides guidance and assists in the training and supervision of Recreation Leaders I/II and volunteers. Implements age and developmentally appropriate activities.
  • Serves as the Manager on Duty for designated sites/facilities.
  • Oversees site operations, including opening and closing procedures, equipment setup, and facility maintenance.
  • Supervises on-site staff, providing guidance, direction, and support as needed.
  • Maintains accurate administrative records including but not limited to daily attendance, participant emergency information, accident reports, and medication logs. Prepares program reports as needed.
  • Develops, organizes, and supervises recreational activities.
  • Oversees a wide variety of recreation activities held simultaneously at single and multiple park or recreation sites.
  • Provides and maintains written correspondence including attendance, activity, and financial records; manages multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (at job entry)
Education and Experience:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must possess a valid Arizona drivers license.
  • High School Diploma or GED, and a minimum of two (2) seasons as a Recreation Leader II or two (2) years of experience in sports, recreation or youth activities, retail or restaurant management or lead responsibilities, or related experience; or, an equivalent of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

LICENSING/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS (completed within 30 days of hire date)
  • First Aid;
  • CPR/AED

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position has been identified as a safety-sensitive position by Human Resources, per State and/or Federal Law. Upon conditional offer of employment, the candidate selected will be required to undergo testing for alcohol and controlled substances within twenty-four (24) hours of the offer.

  • Equipment and supplies used in youth and adult sports, games and activities.
  • First aid methods and necessary safety precautions used in recreation programming.

  • Providing courteous and efficient service to the public and in responding to inquiries, complaints and requests in a fair, tactful and firm manner.
  • Supervising multiple gams and activities simultaneously. 
  • Both verbal and written communication.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Operating basic computer programs.
  • Ability to write reports and fill out forms.
  • Using critical thinking and judgement while assessing situations.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, and other interested parties sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
