Full-time, Clerk III/Utility
FLSA: Non-Exempt; 37.5 hours per week, Monday - Friday.

ABOUT THE ROLE: The Town of Salem, NH seeks a full time, 37.5 hours/week, Monday - Friday, Utility - Clerk III who will be responsible for managing the billing process for water and sewer service, ensuring accurate billing, customer service, and account management.
ACCOUNTABILITY: Reports directly to and is accountable to the Finance Director and/or their designee.

- High school diploma or equivalent with one (1) to two (2) years of related experience.
- Knowledge of billing and cash receipt function and computerized systems.
- Extremely detail oriented.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to evaluate customer problems/concerns and exercise independent judgement to resolve them.
- Ability to perform analyses/audits of data to ensure accuracy of reporting and billing.
- Ability to create and maintain accurate records and files.
- Ability to interact with members of the public and co-workers.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
What You Will Do: (The following is illustrative of the duties and responsibilities associated with the position and is not intended to be all-inclusive)
This role involves preparing and processing monthly billings for residential and commercial water and sewer customers, ensuring accuracy by running trial reports, investigating discrepancies, and addressing billing issues. The employee will maintain a comprehensive database for customer accounts, including updates to meter information and related details. Responsibilities also include handling payment processing, managing delinquent accounts, and assisting customers with inquiries, account setup, and closures both in person and over the phone.
This individual will work with various utility software platforms (MuniSmart, Neptune 360, Invoice Cloud, and VX Smart) and prepare specialized bills for certain customer groups. The role includes processing the annual Demand and Benefit Assessment (DBA) billing, preparing final bills, and coordinating with the Tax Collector for lien notifications. Additionally, tasks include preparing reports for customers and the Finance Director, processing meter sheets, and providing backup coverage for other team members when necessary. Other related duties may be assigned by the Finance Director or their designee.
What We Offer: $23.90/hour with holidays, paid time off, benefits in accordance with the SEA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
