HIRING PAY :

Full Range : $22.42 - $33.95 / hr

This is a SEASONAL position scheduled to work 40 hours a week from May through Labor Day.

Description :

This classification is responsible for maintaining and overseeing assigned facilities. Duties include maintenance of grounds, equipment and facilities within the assigned location. Duties also include cleaning park facilities, cleaning buildings, picking up debris, landscaping, simple plumbing, carpentry, and electrical work; providing supervision of park facilities during assigned hours. Position will also assist with pool maintenance when needed. Under general supervision, reports to the Park Facilities Manager.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The following duties are normal for this position.   • Supervises assigned park facilities during operating hours
  • Prepares and cleans facilities for field trip visits to various park structures such as the Capt. Jeff Kuss USMC Memorial, playgrounds, shelters and associated facilities
  • Represents the Parks and Recreation Department at assigned areas during peak use
  • Ensures park facilities stay operational, safe and clean during peak use
  • Assists with programming at assigned park areas
  • Occasionally acts as a liaison between the Town of Smyrna and park users
  • Enforces city and departmental policies in regards to park use
  • Leads others in performing mowing duties of duties of areas, grassed areas around buildings and other areas; weeds and trim areas; picks up debris such as paper, bottles, cups and limbs in making areas more attractive; sods and seeds grass; top dresses designated areas; does hand and other watering; spreads fertilizer; trims trees.
  • Leads others in performing landscaping and related work such as refurbishing flower and shrub beds, trimming and shaping hedges and other vegetation; applies insecticides, plant food and other chemicals to plants and vegetation.
  • Leads grounds crews in routine grounds work and other assigned tasks.
  • Preps athletic field by dragging infields, lining fields, and various other activities
  • Cleans bathrooms and other facilities; does simple plumbing, carpentry, electrical, and painting in the maintenance and repair of facilities.
  • Maintains records in compliance to Federal, State, and City regulations
  • Works safely observing all OSHA, Federal, State, and City regulations.
  • Reports any accidents immediately to Manager.
  • Correctly wears appropriate personal protective equipment when required.
  • Performs routine maintenance on equipment. Report any malfunctioning equipment to Manager.
  • Conducts behavior at all times in a professional manner to reflect positively on customer's perception of town facility.
  • Helps maintain the cleanliness of machines, work areas and facilities. Report incidents, or malfunctioning equipment to the Manager.
  • Assists weekend Managers by leading grounds crew in assigned tasks as needed as needed.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned by Manager.
  • Provide coverage in absence of other personnel.
  • Promote the teamwork environment.
  • Assist coworkers when necessary.
  • Mandatory overtime is sometimes required, as well as varying work hours including evenings, weekends, and some holidays. Mandatory overtime is sometimes required, as well as varying work hours including evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
  • Under general supervision, employee must work independently performing multi-task assignments
  • Work environment can be dirty with unpleasant odors

GREGORY MILLS & SPLASH PAD :

  • Supervises assigned park facilities during operating hours
  • Prepares and cleans facility for field trip visits to various park structures such as Gregory Mill Splash Pad, Memorial, playgrounds, shelters and associated facilities
  • Represents the Parks and Recreation Department at assigned areas during peak use
  • Ensures park facilities stay operational, safe and clean during peak use
  • Assists with programming at assigned park areas
  • Occasionally acts as a liaison between the Town of Smyrna and park users
  • Enforces city and departmental policies in regards to park use
  • Could be asked to perform other duties such as tree trimming, weed-eating, pressure washing, and debris pick-up as needed.
  • Leads other Splash Pad staff in day to day activities such as general upkeep of pad, enforcing of rules and policies on the Splash Pad, and checking chemicals
  • Cleans bathrooms and other facilities
  • Maintains records in compliance to Federal, State, and City regulations
  • Works safely observing all OSHA, Federal, State, and City regulations.
  • Reports any accidents immediately to Manager.
  • Correctly wears appropriate personal protective equipment when required.
  • Conducts behavior at all times in a professional manner to reflect positively on customer's perception of town facility.
  • Helps maintain the cleanliness of work areas and facilities. Report incidents, or malfunctioning equipment to the Manager.
  • Assists supervisor by leading Splash Pad personnel in assigned tasks as needed as needed.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned by Manager.

  • Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Two (2) years' experience in facilities, equipment, and commercial grounds maintenance
  • Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
  • Must have a valid Tennessee Drivers License
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
