Description
The Police Crime and Intelligence Analyst will support law enforcement efforts by analyzing crime data, identifying trends, and providing actionable intelligence to assist in crime prevention, intervention, and investigation. This role requires a detail-oriented individual with strong analytical skills and a commitment to public safety. The analyst will work closely with law enforcement personnel, using various software platforms and databases to compile, analyze, and report on criminal activity. Reports to Administrative Captain.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- The position will have a strong emphasis on administrative and strategic analysis, focusing on long-term crime trends, resource allocation, and organizational support to enhance law enforcement operations and policy development
- Collect, analyze, and interpret crime data from multiple sources.
- Identify and report on crime patterns, trends, and hotspots.
- Prepare detailed analytical reports, bulletins, and maps for dissemination to law enforcement officers and management.
- Develop and maintain databases and other information systems to track criminal activity.
- Collaborate with other law enforcement agencies and analysts to share information and best practices.
- Provide support for ongoing investigations by generating leads and intelligence assessments.
- Present findings and recommendations to law enforcement personnel, management, and community stakeholders.
- Assist in strategic planning and resource allocation by providing data-driven insights.
- Maintains knowledge of principles and practices of Crime Analysis and Criminal Intelligence, Federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations.
- Manipulates, manages, queries, and summarizes raw data from Smyrna Police Department data sources such as Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) Calls-for-Service Data, Records Management System (RMS) Crime and Arrest Data, and other various datasets from internal and external sources.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must possess a valid state-issued Driver’s License
- US Citizen or possess a current permanent resident card
- Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Data Science, Statistics, GIS, or any degree requiring quantitative and/or qualitative research preferred.

Preferred Certifications

- Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Certification.
- Relevant certifications in data analysis or related fields.
Previous Experience in the following preferred
- Experience in crime analysis, law enforcement, or a related field.
- Experience with statistical analysis and data visualization tools.
- Familiarity with criminal justice information systems and databases.
- Experience in preparing and presenting analytical reports to various audiences.
- Software Platforms Necessary to Understand and/or Use Proficiently:
- Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS).
- Crime analysis software (e.g., SPSS, SAS, CrimeStat).
- Database management systems (e.g., SQL, Access).
- Data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
- Law enforcement databases and information systems (e.g., NCIC, RMS, CAD).
- Google Suite (e.g., Sheets, Docs, Slides, Maps).
- Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
