The Town of Snowmass Village is looking to hire a Lifeguard II to join our Parks, Recreation and Trails team!
This is an in-person part-time position, offering part-time benefits
We are looking for a lifeguard that will perform a variety of technical and advanced poolside and water safety duties as needed to ensure safe use of the aquatic facility. The Lifeguard II will develop, supervise and deliver water safety instruction; monitor activities to ensure safety and prevent accidents or injury to patrons and staff; enforce aquatics area and recreation center rules and regulations, and conduct necessary pool maintenance.
Some of the day-to-day duties are listed below:
- Performs as a lifeguard; leads and trains less experienced lifeguards; observes patron activities; enforces rules; disciplines or ejects patrons for rule infractions; monitors patrons to prevent theft or facility abuse.
- Performs first aid as needed to assist individuals suffering injuries; performs water rescues as needed to prevent mishaps and drowning.
- Assists the Fitness & Aquatics Coordinator with the coordination and completion of day-to-day operations.
- Performs supervisory and administrative tasks as instructed.
- Manages the day-to-day operations, programs, and staff in the absence of the Fitness & Aquatics Coordinator.
- Assists with scheduling of, and performing, maintenance and custodial duties of the facility, including, but not limited to vacuuming the pool, scrubbing pool tiles, cleaning the pool deck, brushing pool walls, washing outdoor windows, skimming the pools, emptying skimmer baskets, and taking out trash.
- Participates in the maintenance and documentation of daily records relating to pool chemicals, water temperatures, incidents, and rescues; reports unsafe conditions to supervisor.
- Assists with scheduling, monitoring and performance of daily water quality checks; periodically draws water samples for testing safe water quality levels, reports any unsafe or questionable readings, and takes necessary action to remedy.
- Supervises all swim lessons in the absence of the Fitness & Aquatics Coordinator. Creates lesson and instruction plans for individual and group swimming lessons; delivers lessons to children and adult patrons; evaluates swimming skills and progress and promotes learners according to established swimming standards and skill requirements.
- Develops training strategies for lifeguards, identifying opportunities to enhance lifeguard staff knowledge.
- Communicates effectively and exchanges information with coworkers and patrons.
- Records, responds to and resolves simple patron complaints and directs complex patron complaints to the Fitness & Aquatics Coordinator or other supervisor.

The ideal candidate has the following qualifications:
- Current Certified Pool Operator or Aquatic Facility Operator license preferred
- Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor preferred
- Current American Red Cross Lifeguard
- American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor preferred
- 2 years of experience as a lifeguard
- Previous supervisory experience preferred
