Part Time Animal Care Technician (2 Positions)

The Town of South Kingstown is looking for two energetic and compassionate people to fill the new Part-Time Animal Care Technician positions within the South Kingstown Animal Shelter. This person filling each position will need considerable knowledge of the care and handling of dogs, cats and other small animals; extensive knowledge of canine and feline disease, behavior, and breed requirements and characteristics; extensive knowledge and application of sanitary procedures; considerable knowledge of disinfectant products and procedures. The positions will need to handle and manage aggressive and feral impounded animals in a firm but humane manner as well as learn the applicable laws, ordinances, and department rules and regulations. The positions will need to communicate effectively orally and in writing and have the ability to deal effectively and tactfully with the public in the enforcement of impoundment laws and regulations. These positions maintain the daily care and sustenance of impounded animals. Each position is also responsible for the preparation of paperwork related to the operation of the shelter including receipts; maintaining records and files of the animal shelter and the animals housed there and off premise as well as the safe and humane transport of impounded animals to off-premise adoption location, foster care and local veterinarians.

The qualified candidates must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Several years of experience as an Animal Health Technician and/or several years of experience in the handling and maintenance of animals in a humane manner or an equivalent combination of education and experience are preferred. One position will be hired to fill a scheduled shift of Sundays and Mondays from 8:00am to 3:00pm and then another position will fill the shift scheduled on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8:00am to 3:00pm. The hourly rate for each position is $19.75.
