NATURE OF WORK
Work involves assisting in planning, organizing and supervising assigned recreation areas and activities. Supervision is exercised over part-time and/or seasonal employees, contracted service providers and volunteers.
An essential part of the duties of this position is assisting in developing a flexible and anticipatory organization which will provide cost-effective and customer-friendly delivery of quality services to the community; plus assisting in developing and utilizing the potential of each employee to successfully find new ways to deliver both the short and long-term needs of South Windsor, consistent with the Town’s goals and objectives.
Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Parks & Recreation, the Recreation Supervisor will administer, plan, organize and manage special and signature events, inclusion programing and services. Work is reviewed through meetings, and reports for overall program effectiveness and efficiency. Annual formal performance review by Director of Recreation.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
General:
Plans and organizes assigned recreational, athletic, social and cultural programs, consistent with the Town’s quality service goals and the development of cost-effective, customer-friendly service delivery.
Coordinates such programs as activity based classes, schedules and administers sports leagues, inclusion programs and services, and special events.
Schedules training and information sessions for volunteers and staff.
Visits programs as directed and assists instructors in problem solving and leadership.
Provides information to public on programs.
Assists with the maintenance of department supplies and equipment for programming.
Participates in computerized registration of program participants; schedules use of recreation facilities; assists in the collection of, and accounting for activity fees.
Promotes programs through development of flyers, press releases and other informational releases.
Assists with supervision of recreation center operation and other facilities used for recreation programs.
Maintains records and prepares reports to the Director or Assistant Director as assigned; assembles data for presentation to Director for use in departmental reporting and budget preparation.
Assists in performing office administrative tasks as needed.

INCLUSION SERVICES
Plans, maintains, and implements, safe and accessible recreation programs for individuals with disabilities.
Determines and provides reasonable accommodations for participants with disabilities in all our programs.
Coordinates with appropriate staff and prepares inclusion services and reasonable accommodations for participants in our programs.
Coordinates the intake process of participants in programs and maintains records of participation.
Meets as necessary with appropriate family members, health professionals and/or Board of Education staff to assess needs of participant with disability for successful participation.
Coordinates the marketing of program inclusion to the community.
Serves as department liaison to Board of Education Special Education Department.
Assist the Town’s ADA Compliance officer with accessibility plans.
Consults with the Director on universal and accessible design and equipment in a variety of settings.
SPECIAL EVENTS
Responsible for maintaining and improving all current special events.
Responsible for developing new special events for the community.
Responsible for the implementation of special events, including acquiring and managing staff and volunteers.
Submits all appropriate permits as required for special events (i.e. – DEEP fishing derby, fireworks, alcohol, etc)
Submits required sign permits to the Planning Department for promoting all department activities and events.
Serves as department liaison to other town agencies, boards and commissions with their events and provides support services as needed (examples: Veterans Day & Memorial Day Ceremonies. Wreaths Across America, Armed Forces Day, South Windsor Walk & Wheel Ways, South Windsor Food Alliance).
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs related work as required.
Teamwork both within departments and among departments to maximize quality service delivery to the citizens of South Windsor.
