PURPOSE
This position will be responsible for the operation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of lift stations in the Town's sewer collection system. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the efficient functioning of wastewater infrastructure, minimizing downtime, and adhering to safety and environmental regulations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform regular inspections, preventive, maintenance, and repairs on lift stations, including pumps, motors, control panels, electrical systems, and other associated equipment.
- Identify and resolve operational issues in lift stations, diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and system failures.
- Monitor lift station performance using SCADA systems and manual inspections to ensure efficient operation and adherence to regulatory standards.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections. Document service requests and report on the status of lift station performance and repairs.
- Ensure all lift station maintenance and repairs are completed in compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations. Follow established safety protocols and wear appropriate protective equipment.
- Respond to emergency situations such as lift station failures or power outages. Take corrective action as necessary to restore service and minimize downtime.
- Work closely with other departments and teams to ensure optimal operation of the utility system, providing support during troubleshooting or repairs of associated systems.
- Respond to emergencies, such as water main breaks or sewer backups. Will be in rotation for night and weekend on-call duties.
- Track and manage necessary supplies, parts, and tools for maintenance and repairs.
- Understand how to navigate and work through the Town's work order system. Responsible for the accurate entry of time, equipment, materials, and collected data in the work order system.
- All other reasonably assigned duties.
EDUCATION, SKILLS AND CERTIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED required. Associated with Mechanical or Electrical background preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in water/sewer system maintenance or related field
- Advanced knowledge of water and sewer systems operations including regulatory requirements
- Advanced knowledge of tools and equipment used in general sewer lift station diagnostics, repair, and maintenance.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
- Possess a Class A commercial drivers license with tanker endorsement and an excellent driving record.
- Possess a Collections III State Certification
- Ability to follow instructions and work in a team environment

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to lift 75 pounds and move over short distances, and 35 pounds over extended distances.
- Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which include walking, standing, kneeling, squatting, bending, pulling, pushing, reaching or sitting for extended periods of time, lifting and carrying light to moderate equipment and materials and operating assigned vehicles and heavy equipment.
- Climbing ladders as well as climbing into and out of/onto and off of various pieces of equipment, vehicles and equipment trailers.
- Operating manual hand tools (rakes, shovels, pruners, etc.), light hand power tools (portable saws, drills, blowers, etc.), other power tools (Chainsaws, floor saws brush chippers, etc.)
WORKING CONDITIONS
- This position works exclusively outdoors, year-round, and in all weather conditions.
- This position requires evening, weekend, holiday and call-in work.
- This position is considered an ESSENTIAL POSITION, meaning that work may be required during extreme weather events and other emergency situations.
