What are the responsibilities and job description for the MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN position at TOWN OF SPRING LAKE?
The Spring Lake Public Works Department is seeking a qualified individual to serve as a full-time Maintenance Technician.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The individual performs a variety of general maintenance and construction tasks at a semi-skilled level, including assisting in the building of catch basins and manholes. They are responsible for the maintenance and repair of the water distribution system, which involves tasks such as repairing and installing water mains and service lines, installing water taps and services, setting up meters and meter boxes, installing and repairing water valves, and conducting general maintenance of the system. Additionally, they maintain and repair the sewer collection system, including tasks like repairing and maintaining sewer mains and service lines, cleaning and jetting sewer lines, installing sewer taps, and overall system upkeep. The role also involves cutting and repairing various types of pavements, performing other duties related to the installation, maintenance, and repair of water, sewer, and stormwater infrastructure. The individual makes daily checks of sewage lift stations to ensure proper operation, maintains accurate records of materials, equipment, and supplies used, and cleans lift station sites as needed. They report any necessary lift station maintenance and assist in its upkeep. The position requires operating heavy and specialized equipment, cutting water on and off, and performing both periodic scheduled and unscheduled maintenance. Tact and courtesy are essential when interacting with the public.
Minimum Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should have completed high school or trade school and have experience in the maintenance and operation of water distribution and sewer collection systems. A valid NC Class B Commercial Driver's License with an acceptable driving record is required. Additionally, the candidate must be able to successfully complete a valid Grade I Water Pollution Collection System Operator course and a valid Grade C Distribution System Operator course within one year of employment.
Work Environment:
Exposure to inclement weather and safety hazards, including working in confined spaces, lifting and moving heavy objects, and working on Town streets.
