Sturbridge Senior Center
This position is under the supervision of the Food Service Coordinator.
The Kitchen and Program Support Staff provides assistance and support in all aspects that provides the needs to operate the Kitchen properly. In addition, when available this position will aid the Senior Center staff.

• Oversee coffee preparation, service and clean-up.
• Organize, serve, and clean up lunches for on-site guests.
• Properly cleaning and sanitizing all food preparation areas according to established standards of hygiene.
• Washing and appropriately storing all cooking appliances, instruments, utensils, cutting boards and dishes.
• Assisting the Cook with the preparation of meal ingredients, which includes washing, cleaning, peeling, cutting, and chopping fruit, vegetables, poultry and meat.
• Sweeping and mopping the kitchen floors as well as wiping down kitchen walls.
• Assisting with the unloading of delivered food supplies.
• Organizing and correctly storing food supplies.
• Promptly transferring meal ingredients from storage areas to the kitchen as per the Coordinator’s instructions.
• Assist with basic restroom issues.
• Clean tables and counters after patron use.
• Removing the garbage, washing garbage cans and clearing refrigerators, freezers, and storage rooms.
• Manage ice production and storage.
• Comply with all food health and safety regulations.
• Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Prior experience in similar position
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Special Requirements
• First Aid/AED Training
Knowledge
Working knowledge of the nutrition needs of predominantly aging people. Thorough knowledge of safe food handling standards. General knowledge of the provisions of the Massachusetts Food Code and its application to the operation of a kitchen and preparation of meals.
Ability
Ability to interact in a positive and effective manner with employees and the public and to work independently. Ability to operate a variety of kitchen equipment efficiently within the allotted meal time to maintain quality and reliable service. Ability to organize work and manage multiple tasks in a timely manner. Ability to plan and organize work and manage multiple tasks in a timely manner.
Skill
Skill in using basic computer and office equipment. Good judgment and tact necessary to maintain effective staff and customer relations. Efficient skill level in the management of a good nutritional program for the aging.
Physical Requirements
Work is performed in a change setting, subject to moderate noise and exposure to hot and cold temperatures frequently found in a kitchen environment. A significant amount of time is spent standing, walking, stooping or reaching. The employee is frequently required to use hands to handle or feel objects, tools or controls, and to reach with hands and arms to lift food items. Frequently required to lift up to 50 pounds. Normal vision requirements. Required to operate kitchen equipment in a safe manner and in accordance with manufacturer’s operating instructions.
