OPPORTUNITY: Summerfield, NC (pop. 12K) is seeking a qualified Town Clerk for its beautiful community located in northwest Guilford County and the Piedmont region of North Carolina. The town operates as a limited-services government and has excellent schools, parks, a developing trails system, and very low taxes. The ideal applicant has a “pride in service work ethic” and is motivated, organized, thrives in a collaborative but small-staff environment, and can think linearly.
The Clerk is a direct link between the community and its government and performs critical administrative work. Candidates must be a self-starter with a drive to complete tasks, possess an attention to details, exercise professional judgment, have strong organizational skills, and have an outgoing positive attitude when working with the public.
The Clerk is hired and supervised by the Town Manager and performs professional duties assisting the Town Manager, Council/Mayor, staff, committees, and boards. Legal duties include: 1) noticing official meetings; 2) creating minutes of Council meetings; 3) serving as the custodian of all town records; and 4) performing other duties required by law or Council. The position involves additional responsibilities, such as: posting/publishing notices for various meetings and hearings; processing and filing contracts, ordinances, policies, meeting agenda packets, minutes, rosters, and other documents important to town operations; processing public records requests; attending evening meetings; managing and updating website content; serving as the primary point of contact with town hall visitors and callers; and performing support tasks to help the town function efficiently.
Minimum Requirements: An associate’s degree in business, administration, or public administration, or comparable education and experience; the ability to obtain NCCMC status through UNC School of Government training within one year of hire; the ability to obtain NC Notary Public certification within 3 months of hire; and a valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, or a related field; NC Certified Municipal Clerk (NCCMC) certification; and NC Notary Public certification; and a minimum of three years’ experience as a municipal Clerk.
Salary and Benefits:
Salary: $65,000
Robust Benefits Package: Town paid premiums for Medical, Dental, Vision, Short Term Disability, paid 100% for the Employee; $2,500 Town funded HSA contribution annually, 401K match up to 3%, 3 weeks vacation annually, sick leave, and 12 paid holidays.
