Sunburst Public Works Director Position Opening
The Town of Sunburst, Montana is seeking an experienced individual to perform a variety of skilled work and technical tasks involved in the installation, replacement, repair, general maintenance, and management of Town infrastructure within the Public Works Department. This position is open primarily in the Water/Sewer Department of Public Works but is also intended to take a supervisory role in assignments needed in any Public Works Department.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
DEPARTMENT: Public Works
ACCOUNTABLE TO: Mayor Hovland
LOCATION: Town of Sunburst and Surrounding Jurisdiction
SUMMARY OF WORK: Under administrative supervision, the Public Works Supervisor plans, directs, manages, and oversees all activities of the Public Works department, including street, water, sewer, garbage, and equipment maintenance. This position will also assist administration and financial personnel in department fund management by practicing sound, productive, and cost-effective day to day infrastructure operations.

JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- Performs planning and operational oversight of street, water, sewer, including winter operations; works with the mayor, finance officer, and town engineer to develop and execute water distribution and sewer collection operational plans.
- Provides general work assignments and direction to work crew; conducts meetings as necessary to discuss problems, issues, or updates.
- Supervises and manages activities and work processes of department employees; reviews, plans, and assigns duties, oversees staff training and development, addresses complaints and resolves problems as necessary.
- Performs emergency operations planning.
- Utilizes the town’s software and computer system to enter data and work activities; prepares reports and updates for record keeping and administration.
- Prepares the town’s annual, quarterly, and monthly water and usage reports; monitors water and sewer testing results and conditions.
- Maintains organized expense records and codes invoices and receipts for accurate budget maintenance.
- Will execute and manage all department spending; ensuring the department budget is fiscally balanced and strictly adhered to.
- Follows safe work practices, reports, and corrects conditions in non-compliance with the Montana Department of Labor; conducts regular mandated employee safety trainings for the Public Works Department.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
1. Reside within the corporate limits of the town
2. Legally able to work in the United Sates
3. High-School Diploma
4. 21 Years of Age
5. Possess Valid Driver’s License
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Combined 5 years work experience for a public water distribution and wastewater management system.
2. Current Class 3 (or larger) water and wastewater certifications through the MDEQ.
3. Current Montana Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
