Under direct supervision of the Parks & Facilities Superintendent, the Park Maintenance Technician performs a variety of semi-skilled duties and tasks involved with park and building maintenance services.

Employees are required to be in attendance and prepared to begin work at their assigned work location on the specified days and hours. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Maintains, services, and monitors the cleanliness of landscaping, buildings, grounds, irrigation, athletic fields, medians, and general rights-of-way.
  • Performs landscape maintenance and repairs at the Town’s parks and facilities including mowing, edging, pruning and removal of trees and shrubs, landscape bed maintenance (weeding, mulching, planting, etc), clearing of brush, seeding, fertilizing, aerating, herbicide and pesticide application, sports field preparation, lighting, and irrigation systems.
  • Operates various types of ground maintenance equipment in the maintenance and operations of park properties and other public grounds; skilled in using pickups, trailers, zero turn mowers, tractors, flex wing mowers, and utility vehicles.
  • Assists, supports, and helps with the general upkeep and maintenance of all vehicles and equipment used in the performance of maintenance duties; makes minor repairs and adjustments to equipment as needed.
  • Repairs, maintains, and ensures the safety of all the Town’s playground equipment, exercise stations, picnic tables, drinking fountains, grills, litter receptacles, benches, bleachers, pavilions, restrooms, and other public areas.
  • Performs any other maintenance service duties in the care and keeping of the Parks and Recreation facilities, fields, grounds, and areas.
  • Open and close facilities for rentals.
  • Ability to work overtime, nights, weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Provide care to animals at the Animal Shelter as needed.
  • Collect litter along roads and right-of-ways.
  • Clean restrooms, kitchens and common areas as needed.
  • Performs related duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines High School Diploma/GED PLUS six (6) months experience in parks, grounds, or landscaping maintenance; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Knowledge of: • Maintenance and repair of supplies and equipment. • Safe operation of various vehicles and equipment. • Landscape, athletic field, and park management. • Customer service practices and methods. • Ability to use landscape management app to track work flow Skill in: • Maintaining and keeping all grounds and public areas operational. • Providing customer service and interacting with patrons. • Operating multiple forms of maintenance equipment and performing minor repairs. • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. • Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.

Special Requirements

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS A valid Class C Driver’s License is required.
