Hourly Rate: $16.02The Administrative Assistant- Recreation Programs primarily assists in coordinating and implementing recreation programs by supervising participants and activities and ensuring a safe environment for all participants for the Town Parks, Recreation & Tourism Department (PR&T). This position also performs administrative support functions. This non-exempt part-time position works a non-traditional work schedule, primarily afternoons, nights, and weekends, with moderate supervision.

These duties and responsibilities are not intended to be all-inclusive. Employee may perform other related duties as negotiated to meet the ongoing needs of the Town. Assists in coordinating and implementing recreation programs by supervising participants and activities and ensuring a safe and fun environment for all participants.Assists Recreation Programs Supervisor and Coordinator with facilitating, implementing, and supervising multiple programs, camps, and activities.Engages with children and participants in games, indoor and outdoor activities, arts and crafts. Assists in maintaining and cleaning facilities and areas utilized by program participants, including picking up trash, cleaning spills, cleaning tables, sweeping, and mopping floors.Maintains inventory of needed supplies and sends requests to Recreation Program Supervisor and Recreation Administrative Supervisor. Ensures an environment of safety for all participants. Performs administrative tasks such as utilizing a computer to update files and responding to inquiries in person, over the phone, or via email. Serves as the first point of contact at Surf City Community Center via telephone, emails, and walk-ins. Will also assist Welcome & Event Center as needed. Answers and directs phone calls, forwarding messages and requests to appropriate staff members.Collects fees for Community Center membership, rentals, classes, camps, clinics, athletic leagues, and special events and maintains payment records in the appropriate files and software. Customer service, performing general cleaning, maintenance, and office duties, assisting with clerical duties, maintaining records, and compiling reports.Serves as liaison to expedite information flow and interpret policies, procedures, rules, and regulations to patrons, participants, and the general public. Always maintains a clean work environment.Performs work during emergency/disaster situations.Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Working Conditions Employee is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions. When indoors, employees will be exposed to the lighting, temperature, and noise of an open floor-plan office environment and that of an office setting. When outdoors, employee may be frequently exposed to insects, dirt, grass, and weather elements, including rain, wind, varying temperatures, etc. Physical Requirements Work requires prolonged standing, walking long distances, hiking, running, reaching, bending, twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, crawling, lifting, carrying and/or moving equipment, pushing and pulling various objects, climbing steps and ladders, and operating assigned equipment. Employee must be able to perform medium work exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 25 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Work is also performed within an office environment, primarily behind a desk, and frequently includes computer operation. The employee must read, write, and interact with others in person, over the phone, and via other devices. The employee may move about within the facility to access file cabinets, documents, office machinery, and other equipment.
