The Town of Topsail Beach is currently accepting applications for the position of Full-Time Firefighter to work in the Topsail Beach Fire Station. This position requires the employee to stay abreast of state-of-the-art fire suppression procedures, techniques, and equipment and requires the employee to incorporate the necessary changes into in-service training. The employee is subject to the hazards associated with firefighting and rescue work including working in inside and outside environments, in extreme hot and cold temperatures, loud noise, vibration, moving parts, high heat, chemicals, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, oils, wearing respirators, and working in close quarters. This position also requires us to be able to perform Ocean Rescues along our beach strand and intercoastal. The employee is also subject to the final OSHA standards on bloodborne pathogens. This position reports to Chief Bo Fussell. Knowledge, Skills, and Ability Requirements: · Considerable knowledge of modern methods of fire suppression and of the use and maintenance of firefighting apparatus and equipment.· Considerable knowledge of incident response including response to hazardous materials spills, technical rescue, emergency medical and fire incident calls.· Considerable knowledge of departmental rules and regulations.· Considerable knowledge of the Incident Command System.· Knowledge of the application of information technology to the work of the department.· Working knowledge of housing construction materials and methods.· Thorough knowledge of Town streets and layout.· Skills in collaborative conflict resolution, teamwork, and public contact.· Skill in the driving and operation of fire apparatus.· Ability to operate and maintain all departmental equipment and apparatus.· Ability to maintain effective working relationships with employees, volunteers, officials, and members of the public.· Ability to work with a diverse socio-economic population based on the unique situations encountered.· Ability to make sound judgments in emergency situations.· Ability to prepare manual and electronic records of work activities.
