Are you looking for the opportunity to work in a beautiful coastal environment? Topsail Beach is a small tourist town located on the Southernmost end of Topsail Island. We are seeking an experienced, passionate, and motivated professional to join the Community Development Team to serve as our Multi-Trade Inspector. The ideal candidate will perform multi-trade inspections in various stages of construction for residential and non-residential projects to determine compliance with the North Carolina Building Codes and related Town ordinances and policies. Duties also include enforcement of local codes and ordinances related to construction, minimal housing conditions, nuisances, and violations. The essential functions of this position include: · Review permit applications and plans for completeness and compliance. · Perform multi-trade inspections on residential and non-residential buildings in the electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and building trades.· Prepare documentation of approval or defects of inspections and record them in the Town’s database/software system.· Coordinate and provide interpretations of the codes for contractors, designers, business owners, residents, and homeowners within the Town’s jurisdiction.· Attend continuing education classes as required by the North Carolina Code Qualifications Board.· Code Enforcement of local ordinances, which includes investigating and processing local code violations to bring property into compliance.· Administrative duties including but not limited to data entry, email correspondence, scheduling, and filing.· Perform other duties as assigned.An employee in this position must possess the necessary administrative skills for daily computer and software use including data entry and record keeping maintenance. This position works daily with contractors, architects, engineers, and homeowners in complying with federal, state, and local ordinances and codes. A person in this position must be able to work independently and without close supervision. This employee must have excellent communication skills to explain complex information in a non-technical manner and be able to use firmness and tact when enforcing ordinances and codes with contractors and the general public.
