Under the general direction of the Director of E.M.S. is responsible for day-to-day administrative functions of the Dept. including phone support, correspondence and communication with field staff, management, and outside agencies. Performs responsible and difficult tasks requiring independent judgment and personal initiative. The weight of the examination will be 40% experience and training, 20% computer skills assessment and 40% oral examination. The candidates will be ranked based on experience and training, computer skills and the oral examination. Each candidate must have have the minimum required experience and training to be eligible to participate for the exam for this position.
This examination will be conducted for the Town of Trumbull by the Trumbull Civil Service Board within the authority of Section 7-413 of the 1959 revision of the State of CT General Statutes. Please notify the Civil Service office in advance of the examination of any disability which may require special accommodation. - Proficiency with computer, including but not limited to Word and Excel
- Independently prepares correspondence and reports. Provides administrative support in preparation of departmental budget and reports such as Connecticut EMS Application, Annual Report, Chief Report, financial comparisons and fiscal year analysis.
- Acts as Department Liaison and/or representative as needed under direction of the Executive Director of EMS as it relates to their administrative duties. Attends and keeps minutes of E.M.S. Commission meetings as required by department
- Works with Town of Trumbull Departments and vendors to assist and coordinate purchasing, PO tracking and budget line usage.
- Performs a variety financial and statistical record keeping tasks such as; the Mutual Aide In/Out, Monthly Report, CQA Metrics & Benchmarks, Mission Lifeline and CARES Network Reporting
- Assist with billing/PCR billing compliance. Requires mathematical ability and may handle cash.
- Will be cross-trained and will assist in training others, as determined by departmental need
- Handles administrative duties associated with new employee on-boarding and training as needed.
- Assist in coordinating community education and events (CPR/Safe sitter, Trumbull Day, EMS week, EMS picnic)

Supervision Exercised - NoneMinimum Qualifications, Knowledge, Skill and Ability:
- Knowledge of office procedures and principles of office management and or record keeping
- Strong computer skills with an emphasis on Word and Excel
- Ability to respond courteously to the public
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to learn appropriate State and Town laws and policies.
- Clear and concise written and oral expression
- Accuracy and attention to details
- AHA BLS instructor or ability to obtain with 6 months of hire.
Experience and Training:
- Graduation from high school or GED required.
- College Degree desirable
- Four (4) years’ experience in office work including public contact.
- EMT certification or medical background preferred.
- Medical billing experience preferred.
