What are the responsibilities and job description for the Landscape Gardener, Parks position at Town of Trumbull?
Under the general directions of the Superintendent of Parks & Recreation or his designee is responsible for the proper maintenance and care of a wide variety of plants, shrubs and flowers located on all Town properties including public parks and playing fields. GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
1. Performs a variety of skilled tasks in the maintenance and installation of a wide variety of trees, shrubs and flowers.
2. Deals with any cultural problems that may arise with any of the plants, and turf areas under the care of the Town or as assigned.
3. Maintains, operates, and programs all Town owned planting bed and recreation area irrigation systems.
4. Maintains records of all spraying, fertilization and related pesticide applications.
5. Performs same responsibilities as Parks and Highway Maintainers, as well as any related task as assigned.
6. Works in all types of weather.
7. Makes recommendations as to plant type and species for specific projects.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY:
1. Considerable knowledge of both indigenous and hybrid plant species, turf management, pruning techniques, landscape maintenance and general horticultural practices.
2. Working knowledge of fertilizer, fungicide and pesticides, their application rates and techniques.
3. Ability to compose reports.
4. Ability to understand and to give written and oral instructions.
5. Ability to interact with courtesy and provide accurate recommendations or identifications when requested by the public.
6. Must have a valid current Connecticut Chemical Applicators License or obtain license during probationary period.
7. Must hold a valid current Connecticut Commercial Drivers License Class B (CDL-B)
8. Must be able to operate standard landscaping equipment, including but not limited to, tractor/loader, chainsaw and power trimmers.
9. Must have some knowledge of basic computer skills.
10. Must be available to work all emergency overtime.
11. Ability to perform moderately heavy labor and lift at least 65 pounds.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Associates or higher degree with primary courses in Turf Management, Arboriculture or other Horticultural based discipline, and/or not less then six (6) years of practical experience in the operation or management of a public Park System, Golf Course, Commercial Grower or equivalent.

The weight of the examination will be 100% experience and training . The candidates will be ranked based on their experience and training as it relates to the required experience and training for this position based on the information contained in their employment application, the supplemental questionnaire if applicable and any attachments they provide. This examination will be conducted for the Town of Trumbull by the Trumbull Civil Service Board within the authority of Section 7-413 of the 1959 revision of the State of CT General Statutes.
