Work unit assignment determines primary and essential functions.
Work is performed outdoors in all types of weather conditions, or indoors depending on individual work assignments. Work environment includes exposure to noise, dust and traffic with extended periods of standing, walking, bending, crouching, lifting heavy objects and operating equipment.
This job may prepare an incumbent for career progression by gaining additional, more complex, skills.
This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
Work Schedule Monday through Friday 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM Overtime as necessary and mandatory during emergency situations

All new employees must satisfactorily complete a background check. A conditional offer of employment may then be made contingent upon the successful completion of a physical exam that includes drug testing.
These are Non-Exempt Positions.
Ensures that all signs and stands required for the work zone are on the sign truck prior to starting a job; checks that containers and dispensers are filled/fueled daily, e.g., water tank, extra gas and propane tanks, and air compressor; drives the sign truck and sets up the appropriate advance warning signs or closes down a section of the road; notifies designated office in Town Hall about road closure; directs and maintains work zones by flagging and setting up an appropriate work zone and using a variety of signs and cones.
Learns to use or uses such equipment as a hydraulic sewer cleaning truck, rodder truck, asphalt zipper, backhoe, generator, roller, jack hammer, and snow plow.
Enters and works in confined spaces, using personal protective equipment and operates under OSHA standards for excavation and confined space entry.
Sweeps, mops, scrubs, vacuums, and buffs floors, hallways, dusts and cleans furniture, equipment, fixtures, window sills, cleans, strips, waxes and floors, washes interior and exterior windows railways, and blinds; collects and removes wastepaper and trash from offices, halls, and restrooms; washes walls, windows, mirrors, light fixtures, and drinking fountains; disinfects toilets, wash bowls, and urinals.
Collects trash and yard waste, picks up leaves and brush, empties containers and dumpsters, receives and/or reviews various records and reports such as identifying what is in each can. Refers to rules and regulations, policy and procedure manuals, codes/laws/regulations, publications and reference texts.
Operates a variety of non-commercial vehicles and equipment. Uses a variety of tools such as, but not limited to, brooms and shovels and a variety of supplies such as safety supplies. Respectfully interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the supervisor, co-workers, and the general public.
Additional Duties:
Sets up and tears down after town events.
Fixes/repairs holiday lights; strings lights on trees and light poles using a bucket truck.
Installs street and traffic signs.
Loads and unloads trucks.
Cleans and lubricates work vehicles and equipment.
Flags traffic in work areas for workers and drivers.
Reports to work for snow or other emergencies as assigned.
Maintains positive relations with co-workers and the public.
Performs related work as assigned.
