CAMP AQUATICS DIRECTOR
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
This is a seasonal position to oversee all activities in and on the water at the children’s camp’s waterfront. The incumbent will be responsible for supervising all staff and campers participating in these activities. The incumbent will be responsible for the life and protection of persons swimming or other wise using the recreational facilities of a pool or beach area. The position differs from Lifeguard by the addition of record keeping and supervisory responsibilities. The work is carried out under general direction from the administrative official.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
Typical work activities for incumbents in this title include those listed below in addition to those typical work activities performed by lower level titles in the series. They are indicative of the level and types of activities performed by incumbents in the title. It is not meant to be all inclusive and does not preclude a supervisor from assigning activities not listed which could reasonably be expected to be performed by an employee in this title.
1. Patrols bathing area during operating hours;
2. Patrols open water in a rowboat to prevent drowning accidents;
3. Enforces waterfront regulations;
4. Supervises lifeguards at park;
5. Trains lifeguards in proper lifesaving, first aid, and CPR techniques;
6. Submits weekly reports on lifeguards’ activities;
7. Leads and participates in beach cleaning;
8. Provides knowledge of emergency first-aid practices and procedures.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Knowledge of the principles and practices of water safety and artificial respiration sufficient to train and oversee a staff of lifeguards; ability to plan and supervise the work of others; ability to maintain simple records and accounts; ability to rescue swimmers in trouble and to administer proper lifesaving and first aid techniques; ability to operate water safety equipment; ability to function well under stress; personal characteristics necessary to perform the duties of the position; physical condition to commensurate with the demands of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidate must be at least 21 years of age and have at least two (2) seasons of waterfront experience as a lifeguard or aquatics director. Lifeguard management certification and Water Safety Instructor certification required. Also must meet the requirements of Part 6 of the New York State Sanitary Code:
1. a current cardiopulmonary resuscitations (CPR) certificate, not exceeding one year in duration, in CPR for the Professional Rescuer issued by the American Red Cross (ARC); or
2. a current CPR certificate, not exceeding one year in duration, issued by a certifying agency determined by the State Commissioner of Health to provide an adequate level of CPR training; And be either a progressive swimming instructor or qualified lifeguard.

Pay: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour
