What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Fire Chief position at Town of Wellesley?
The Wellesley Fire Department currently has an opening for a full time Assistant Fire Chief . The Assistant Fire Chief is responsible for assisting the Fire Chief in the day-to-day operations and business of the Fire Department, to include supervising fire personnel in the performance of their official duties; maintaining discipline; resolving and coordinating issues; overseeing the Departments fire prevention program; developing Departmental policies and budgets; and assisting in administering the negotiated contract between the Town and the firefighters union. This position also represents the Department in public relations and works with the Consolidated Dispatch Liaison Officer for the Fire Department.
Under the direction of the Fire Chief, the principal responsibilities of the Assistant Chief include, but are not limited to, assisting the Chief in the supervision of daily Departmental operations and related administrative assignments; overseeing Departmental training activities; supervising fire inspection services; and directing all operations in the absence of the Chief. Work is performed with a high degree of independence in accordance with Departmental regulations, operational policies, Town bylaws and state and federal laws. Requirements include an Associates degree in Fire Science or completion of the Chief Fire Officer Management Training Program at the Massachusetts Fire Academy, Credentialed Fire Chief by Massachusetts Fire Service Commission or have the qualification eligible for accreditation as a credentialed Fire Chief, 10 years of progressively responsible work in a fire department or an equivalent combination of training and experience, thorough knowledge of modern firefighting and rescue techniques, and fire administration principles and practices and a minimum of 8 years experience with the planning and operations of the Boston Marathon or of events of the same scale and magnitude. Also required are a thorough knowledge of state and local laws and regulations and nationally accepted codes pertaining to fire protection and prevention, demonstrated oral and written communication and interpersonal skills and a valid drivers license. 10 years of supervisory experience and additional licensure such as Construction Supervisor License are preferred.
The salary range is $160,000 - $175,000 depending upon qualifications and experience.
