Heavy Truck Driver / Mechanical Assistant
The Town of Wellfleet, MA is seeking to hire a Heavy Truck Driver / Mechanical Assistant in the Department of Public Works. This is a permanent, full time (40 hours per week) Teamsters Union position and includes some weekends. Duties are primarily between the Department of Public Works and hauling material for the Wellfleet Transfer Station. Ability to learn to operate all types of DPW equipment with proper training. Ability to operate snow removal equipment. Capable of dealing with the public in a positive, professional manner. Ability to safely operate truck / trailer combinations with a gross weight up to 100,000 lbs. Understanding of the operation of hydraulically operated trailers, including push-out, walking floor, roll off and dump units. Ability to operate front-end loaders, backhoes, bulldozers, truck / trailers, excavators, road sweeper, road grader and 6–10-wheel dump trucks. Knowledge of mechanical repairs on light and heavy equipment related to DPW operations. Assist with mechanical repairs, scheduling, and administrative paperwork / fleet maintenance software.
This requires a CDL Class A driver’s license and a Massachusetts Hoisting license. A minimum of five (5) years of experience working as a heavy equipment operator and / or truck driver is desired. The starting wage is between $32.00 - $34.7399 per hour based on experience / skills, plus an excellent benefit package.
