PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION The Animal Shelter Aide (ASA) is under the direct supervision of the Animal Control Officer and the Police Lieutenant assigned to oversee the Animal Shelter. The ASA assists in maintaining the Town Animal Shelter and ensures the well being of animals (wild and domestic or exotic), that are housed within.
The shift is Sunday- Thursday 8:00AM-4:00PM. $24.98 per hour. 37.5 hours per week. Full benefits – health, dental, life insurance, pension plan, personal days, sick days, vacation days.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Ensure that animal housings are clean and sanitize according to established protocols;
· Ensure that all animals are provided with food, water, bedding;
· Ensure that all animals are provided with daily exercise, such as walking;
· Provide basic grooming services to shelter animals as required or needed;
· Monitor behavior of animals and report any issues immediately to supervisor;
· Assist the Animal Control Officer in maintaining the shelter’s database to keep accrual animal records;
· Assist the Animal Control Officer with the adoption of animals according to set protocols
· Assist members of the public in answering any questions;
· Assist member of the public in the adoption process as protocol allows;
· Assist in providing public education on Animal Control Issues;
· Light maintenance and repairs at shelter and grounds;
· Perform other related duties as required or which may be assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
· Applicant must possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent with some work experience in an animal shelter or work involving the care and treatment of animals; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
· Must pass a Background Criminal Record prior to appointment. Negative findings may prevent applicant from being considered for this position.
Requires the rabies vaccination which is a series of injections and obtaining a booster shot when there is an indication of a loss in immunity.
