What are the responsibilities and job description for the Basketball Referees position at Town of Westwood?
BASKETBALL REFEREES
The Westwood Recreation Department is looking for several certified Basketball Referees for its Adult (Men’s and Women’s) Basketball League which runs from March 1 – August 31. Two one-hour games are played per evening on Wednesdays and Thursdays providing an opportunity to referee from 2-4 hours per week. Scheduling is flexible.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 21 years of age;
- High School Graduate or equivalent;
- Certified by the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials (IAABO);
- At least 2 years’ Referee experience;
- CPR and First Aid Certification;
- Solid knowledge of the rules of basketball.
- Ability to enforce rules of the game.
- Ability to work under pressure.
Responsibilities and duties include the following:
- Officiate League games fairly and impartially.
- Follow and enforce Adult Basketball League rules during games.
- Interact with players in a respectful and cooperative manner.
- Resolve conflicts in a professional and tactful way.
- Be able to work score, stat sheets and scoreboard, if needed.
- Work closely with League coordinator to ensure League runs smoothly.
Schedule requirements: Referee 1-2 games in any given night that you are assigned to work. One-hour games each; two nights per week. First game starts at either 7:30 PM or 8:00 PM; Second game starts at either 8:30 PM or 9:00 PM. Required to be at the game 10 minutes prior to the start.
Salary: This is a seasonal, non-benefit position with an hourly rate of $50.00.
