Camp Counselor - Summer 2025
The Westwood Recreation Department is currently accepting applications for the seasonal, non-benefit position of Counselor in the areas of Camp, Sports, Preschool, and Theater . Counselors lead activities for camp participants and are responsible for their general safety and skill development. Work is performed under the direction of the Program Supervisors, Camp Directors and Program Managers. Counselors provide participants with high quality recreational experiences which focus on the Westwood Recreation Department's core values of safety, fun, responsibility and respect. Dedicated Counselors are needed in the following areas :
Camp : Make this summer a positive experience for kids ages 5-14. Lead a group of campers in activities including games, crafts, sports, and more. Camp Counselors must be a minimum of 16 years of age as required by state regulations : Licensed Camp 105CMR430
Sports : Demonstrate your skills, enthusiasm and knowledge of a variety of sports. Experience playing and / or coaching a sport is essential. Counselors must be at least 15 years of age.
Preschool : "Summer Fun with the Little Ones" for ages 3-5. Enrich the children's day with games, crafts, music, and creative play. Counselor minimum age requirement is 15 years of age.
Theater : Join our team and help lead a cast through the various stages of putting together a musical production from audition, to rehearsal, to final performance (take a bow, please!). Counselors must be at least 15 years of age.
Qualifications and Experience :
- Experience working with groups of children
- Attendance at all required staff trainings
- Certified in First Aid, CPR / AED (The Recreation Department offers convenient staff classes for a fee)
- Ability to work with children of varying ages, backgrounds, and abilities
- Excellent communication skills
Summer 2025 Schedule Commitments :
Preseason Staff Trainings : Evenings June 10-12 (Time TBD)
7-Week Mandatory Commitment : June 23-August 8 (No July 4)
Additional Camp Weeks (Optional) : August 11-22
Salary and Benefits : The Summer Counselor position is a seasonal, non-benefit position. Starting hourly rate is $15.00 to $17.00, Eligible for a $500 perfect attendance bonus!
