NATURE OF WORK
The Seasonal Equipment Operator will work with a team of other Public Works employees. Individuals in this position perform semi-skilled tasks including but not limited to, routine tasks to clean, repair and maintain the town’s infrastructure including streets and roads, roadsides, rights of ways, bridges, medians, sidewalks/curb & gutters, open spaces, easements, storm drainage systems, water & wastewater facilities, facility grounds, and other areas within the Town of Windsor.
This temporary employment may be scheduled through the year on a full-time basis depending on the needs of the town, but will not exceed six months in length (or 1,040 hours, whichever comes first). Individuals in the position are required to perform work in a manner consistent with and exemplary of the town’s PRIDE philosophy and the town’s Equal Opportunity Employment policy.

- Perform maintenance including but not limited to mowing town properties such as streets and roads, roadsides, rights of ways, water & wastewater facilities, storm drainage facilities including detention & retention ponds, open spaces, easements, and other public areas relating to the Town of Windsor.
- Safely drive and operate equipment used in the daily activities of the Equipment Operator, such as light, medium, and heavy-duty tractors and attachments, including dump trucks, pickup trucks, and trailers.
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment as necessary.
- Performs regular street sweeping tasks on a daily basis.
- Performs pre-and post-trip inspections, preventative maintenance checks, and minor repairs on division equipment and other town vehicles to ensure they operate properly.
- Assists with pavement patching of damaged streets and roads in areas described as deficiencies in the pavement, such as moderate to severe potholes, rutting, extensive settling and cracking, along with water break areas; by spreading hot and cold asphalt and doing handwork with hot and cold asphalt.
- Performs miscellaneous maintenance duties such as driving trucks to haul dirt, gravel, and rock; loading and unloading trucks, and picking up trash and debris in the roads and rights of ways.
- Assists with painting/pavement markings layout, installing, repairing, and removing traffic and pedestrian lane markings such as stop bars, crosswalks, only, turn arrows, bike lane & handicap symbols, parking lot stalls, and line markings, etc.
- Assists with installing and removing traffic control devices prior to performing road construction work, special events, and emergencies, by using the appropriate traffic control devices and flagging operations when needed.
- Assists with a variety of tasks involved in noxious weed control, which may include the use of spraying herbicides and operating mowing and weed-eating equipment.
- Cleans equipment and Public Works shops and yard areas as necessary.
- Inputs daily work data into a computer and maintains records of work performed.
- Perform work in a courteous and safe manner and maintain working relationships with co-workers.
- Effectively communicates with the public and maintains a courteous and helpful attitude.
- Work in a team environment as part of the Streets Division.
- Perform and foster an environment of safe work practices and report safety issues promptly to the direct supervisor.
- Performs other duties as assigned by direct supervisor.
OTHER DUTIES

- The Equipment Operator position participates in the Shared Fleet Vehicle Program, which requires an annual motor vehicle record check.

- Continues educational and certification requirements in order to remain abreast of current methods and procedures.

- Minimum high school diploma or equivalent
- Must be 21 years of age by the first date of employment
- Two (2) years of experience in a related field such as equipment operation, trucking driving, and agriculture, particularly with using tractors and their attachments, as these fields pertain to streets & stormwater maintenance work.
- Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that shows the candidate possesses the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job may be considered.
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES
- Must have and maintain a valid Colorado Class B Commercial Driver's License that meets the Town of Windsor’s standards
- Must possess and maintain a Department of Transportation Medical Examiner’s Certificate
- CPR/1stAid certification within thirty (30) days of employment

- Equipment: Position requires the use of various equipment including pickups, trailers, single & tandem dump trucks, snow plow trucks, streets sweepers, road sweepers, vac trucks & trailers, toolkits & attachments, skid steers, rollers, tampers, plate compactors, saws, weed eaters, hand blowers, paint striper, pumps, compressors, sanders, common hand and power tools, shovels, rakes, brooms, and wrenches. Inspection and testing equipment such as locators, manhole hooks, hand tools, and ladders. Specialized equipment including asphalt patcher, concrete mixer, post-hole pounder, air tools, welding & torch equipment, and other specialized light-duty power equipment. Operate staff vehicles, refueling stations, electric car charging stations, fluid dispensing systems, wash facility & equipment, two-way radios, computers/tablets/other digital equipment, calculators, copiers, printers, fax machines, and telephones.
- Materials:Position requires the use of weed chemicals like herbicides, pesticides, fuels, oils, lubricants, adhesives, degreasers, grease, refrigerants, antifreeze, and cleaning supplies. Paints, sealers, lacquers/thinners/solvents, epoxy’s, concrete/cement, dirt/backfill, sand, road base, gravel, hot & cold patch asphalt, chemical hardeners, concrete sealers, and other materials as needed.
