Hiring Range: This position's base/starting wage is $21.52 per hour, which increases based on years of service/experience.

NATURE OF WORK
As a member of the Parks Division, individuals in this position perform a variety of park maintenance tasks.This position provides support to all aspects of park maintenance operations. This includes but is not limited to grounds maintenance, facility construction, landscape construction, janitorial support, small equipment operation, and special event support. May require evenings and weekends.

Most positions work Monday through Friday, which may also require weekend and evening hours on a regular or occasional basis. This temporary employment may be scheduled through the year on a full-time basis depending on the needs of the town but will not exceed six months in length (or 1,040 hours, whichever comes first). This is strictly temporary employment.

Please note that town employees (including seasonal employees) may only be employed in one classification at any one given time.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Individuals work under the direct supervision/leadership of the Parks Supervisor or designee to carry out assigned duties, functions, roles, and projects in both routine and complex circumstances. Individuals report directly to the Park Supervisor and/or Maintenance Technician.

SUPERVISION/LEADERSHIP EXERCISED
No supervisory responsibilities or control exercised.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
The individual in the Seasonal Parks Maintenance Technician role is assigned specific assignments, job duties, scope, authority, responsibility, roles, and requirements as determined by the town, department, and division, and pursuant to laws, regulations, and practices. Individuals in this position must be able to successfully perform, be responsible for, and/or assist in the fulfillment of many job functions and duties, with or without reasonable accommodation.
The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all-inclusive:
  • Performs maintenance including but not limited to mowing town properties such as parks, turf areas, and other public areas relating to the Town of Windsor. 
  • Safely operates equipment used in the daily activities of the Parks Maintenance Worker, such as light hand power tools, light equipment (push lawn mower, weed eater, edger) small equipment (riding lawn mower), and town vehicles.
  • Performs routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment as necessary.
  • Assists with a variety of tasks involved in noxious weed control, which may include operating mowing and weed-eating equipment.
  • Cleans equipment and Parks shops and yard areas as necessary.
  • Performs custodial duties such as restroom cleaning, refuse pick-up, and general clean-up.
  • Provides support, as needed, for recreation events and activities.
  • Performs painting and minor repairs of park fixtures and simple construction projects. 
  • Performs thorough maintenance of ball fields, soccer fields, and tennis courts. Duties include installing pitching rubbers, home plates, bases, and base pegs, watering and dragging fields, talc lining fields, and cleaning dugouts and areas associated with ball fields. Soccer field maintenance includes installing nets; layout of fields, marking lines, and refuse pickup. Tennis courts to include tennis net installation, cleaning of courts and refuse pickup of associated areas. 
  • Performs work in a courteous and safe manner and maintains working relationships with co-workers.
  • Effectively communicates with the public and maintains a courteous and helpful attitude.
  • Works in a team environment as part of the Parks division.
  • Performs and fosters an environment of safe work practices and reports safety issues promptly to the direct supervisor. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned by direct supervisor.
OTHER DUTIES
Depending on organizational need, additional duties may include the following:
  • The Parks Maintenance Technician position participates in the Shared Fleet Vehicle Program, which requires an annual motor vehicle record check.
  • Performs research as directed, such as discovering new technology or tools, market research, etc.
  • Performs related duties as established by law/ordinance or reasonably directed by the town.
  • Assists other town departments/divisions, as necessary.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND FORMAL TRAINING 
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Some experience in the use of power mowers, electric tools, hedge trimmers, weed eaters, and assorted gardening implements and the operation of light equipment. 
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence that the applicant possesses the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES
  • Must have a valid Colorado Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one upon hire, that meets the Town of Windsor’s standards.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Ability to perform manual tasks with a minimum of supervision. 
  • Ability to work independently. 
  • Ability to take verbal and written directions. 
  • Demonstrate ability to operate small power equipment, hand tools, and operate light equipment. 
  • Perform simple construction projects. 
  • Knowledge of general turf and park maintenance practices.  
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, other employees, and the public.
  • Knowledge of the policies, procedures, and goals of the Town of Windsor and the department.
  • Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with the public.
  • Ability to read, interpret and apply operating policies and procedures.
  • Ability to react quickly and accurately in emergency situations.
  • Ability to maintain composure during mentally, physically, and emotionally stressful situations.
  • Ability to communicate professionally, clearly, and effectively with people inside and outside the organization using verbal and written methods.
  • Ability to perform the necessary functions of the position and to make appropriate decisions consistent with the job expectations and position description. 
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to handle reasonably necessary stress.
  • Knowledge of occupational safety rules and practices.
MATERIALS and EQUIPMENT USED 
Materials and equipment used include, but may not be limited to the following:
  • Equipment:  Position requires the use of a variety of park maintenance equipment and related tools, computers, tablets or other digital equipment, digital cameras, copiers, printers, scanners, fax machines, telephones, town vehicles, and push and riding lawnmowers.
  • Materials:  Position requires the use of a variety of park maintenance supplies and materials related to landscape and facility maintenance.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

The physical activities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, sitting, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.

The physical requirements of this position are considered Medium Work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

The employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.

The employee is required to have visual acuity to perform an activity such as operating machines such as lathes, drill presses, power saws, and mills where the seeing job is at or within arm’s reach; performing mechanical or skilled trades tasks of a non-repetitive nature such as ones by carpenters, technicians, service people, plumbers, painters, mechanics, etc.; operate motor vehicles or heavy equipment.

The employee is required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned to make general observations of facilities or structures.

The employee may be subject to the following environmental conditions: inside, such as an office setting; outside, with little to no effective protection from weather; extreme cold, typically below 32 degrees for periods of more than one hour; extreme heat, temperatures typically above 100 degrees of periods of more than one hour; subject to noise and vibration.

The employee is subject to hazards, including a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, and exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals. The employee is subject to atmospheric conditions that may affect the respiratory system or the skin and is subject to oils.

This position is considered safety-sensitive because the individual is responsible for their safety as well as the safety of others. Performing these job functions under the influence of drugs or alcohol would pose significant dangers.
