Hiring Range: $22.96- $24.40 hourlyWork Schedule: Schedule varies with athletic programming demands and will include evenings and weekends.NATURE OF WORKAs a member of the Recreation Division, individuals in this position perform work in a team-based environment supporting the Department’s mission and vision along with the goals, philosophies, and initiatives of the Recreation Supervisor - Athletics. This is accomplished by performing a variety of organizing, scheduling and supervising in a variety of sport leagues for youth and adult in addition to assisting with prepping fields and park maintenance tasks. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSThe individual in the Recreation Specialist - Athletics role is assigned specific assignments, job duties, scope, authority, responsibility, roles and requirements as determined by the town, department, division, and pursuant to laws, regulation and practices. Individuals in this position must be able to successfully perform, be responsible for, and/or assist in the fulfillment of many job functions and duties, with or without reasonable accommodation.The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all inclusive: Coordinates with the Recreation Coordinators and Supervisors in organizing, scheduling and supervising a variety of sport leagues and programs appropriate for different age groups.Provides direct supervision for youth and adult games and practices, including tournaments conducted by outside organizations.Plans class activities and conducts individualized or group instruction to participants.Evaluates program effectiveness and recommends new classes or techniques.Manages sports equipment inventory to include preparing and collecting equipment, monitoring inventory, and making recommendations for new purchases.Maintains athletic fields and complexes, parks, trails and open space as assigned including prepping and painting fields, planting trees and shrubs; maintaining irrigation systems; mowing and trimming lawns, shrubs and trees; weed control; raking leaves; and litter removal.Maintains frequent communication with staff within the Recreation Division and reports any issues or concerns with inventory, facility conditions, policies and incidents to supervisory staff as needed.Maintains work area, facilities, equipment, and reports. Set up, tear down of program related equipment. Enforces Department rules and policies with staff and guests.May assist with the preparation and hosting of adult and youth sports meetingsMay assist with the scheduling practices and games, compiling rosters, scheduling officials, and other program-related tasks.May train other staff in program area related duties.Provides exceptional guest service to all guests. Responds to information requests, comments and complaints from the public.Ensures the safety of guests and program participants by enforcing all rules and policies with staff and guests.
