Hiring Range: The base/starting wage for this position is $15.02 per hour, which increases based on years of service/experience.Work Schedule: Shifts vary, must be able to work a variety of shifts including early mornings, weekends, midday, and evening shifts. NATURE OF WORKAs a member of the Aquatics Division, individuals in this position are responsible for instructing, supervising, and testing children and adults in Windsor’s learn-to-swim lesson programs. This position also helps operate the water slide under the direction of Head Lifeguard and the Recreation Coordinator - Aquatics. This temporary employment may be scheduled through the year on a full-time basis depending on the needs of the Town but will not exceed six months in length (or 1,040 hours, whichever comes first). Seasonal Swim Lesson Instructors may work at both the indoor and outdoor pool. The outdoor pool may be open from Memorial Day until Labor Day. Individuals in the position are required to perform work in a manner consistent with and exemplary of the Town’s PRIDE philosophiy and the Town’s Equal Opportunity Employment policy.SUPERVISION RECEIVEDSwim Lesson Instructor Aides may work under the direct supervision/leadership of the Lead Guard, Pool Manager, or Recreation Coordinator - Aquatics to carry out assigned duties, functions, roles, and projects in both routine and complex circumstances.SUPERVISION/LEADERSHIP EXERCISED No supervisory responsibilities or control exercised.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSSwim Lesson Instructor Aides are assigned specific assignments, job duties, scope, authority, responsibility, roles, and requirements as determined by the town, department, division, and pursuant to laws, regulation and practices. Incumbents in this position must be able to successfully perform, be responsible for, and/or assist in the fulfillment of many job functions and duties, with or without reasonable accommodation. The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all inclusive: Enhance Windsor’s Parks, Recreation & Culture image by working with Swim Lesson Instructors to ensure quality visits for guests are being performed in the learn-to-swim program.Ensure the safety of all participants in their swimming classes by safe and proper usage of equipment. Inspects classroom/program environment and equipment to ensure safety.Assists with submitting class lesson plans, block plans and other materials to be properly prepared to teach classes.Communicates effectively with parents.Assists with pool operations and regular safety inspections of pools and equipment to reduce hazards and to provide maximum safety to the patrons. Arrives to work promptly to be ready to teach at the start of each class.Disseminate and promote Parks, Recreation & Culture program information and educate users of potential opportunities and services available.Ensures safety regulations and procedures are adhered to.Performs related work as required and assigned.Assist with dispatching swimmers from top of slide as needed. Utilize When2Work application for access to work schedule and requesting time off.OTHER DUTIESDepending on organizational need, additional duties may include the following: Performs research as directed, such as discovering new technology or tools, market research, etc.Performs related duties as established by law/ordinance or reasonably directed by the Town.Assists other Town departments/divisions, as necessary.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to swim, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
