ENVIRONMENTAL SERVCES & STORMWATER
SEASONAL MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN
General Statement of Duties
Performs duties including collecting litter in the Town and on the beach strand. This position also keeps public accesses and storm drains clear providing safe passage to the beach.
Positions at Wrightsville Beach Public Works require all applicants to successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen as well as a criminal background check.
Distinguishing Features of the Class
Seasonal employees in this class perform duties in accordance with established Town rules and regulations, and the employee is held accountable for the successful completion of their assigned work orders. Seasonal employees are subject to hazards including working in an outside environment, exposer to extreme cold, heat, noise, and atmospheric conditions. Work is also subject to the final OSHA standards on bloodborne pathogens. Work performed is under general supervision and evaluated by observation for efficiency and effectiveness.
Duties and Responsibilities
Remove litter from public areas, streets, beach accesses and beach strand according to the route provided by WBPW Environmental Services and Stormwater supervisor.
Remove sand from public parking areas, and public accesses.
Ensure all storm drains are clear of debris.
Pickup Town recycle receptacles.
Additional Job Duties
May perform miscellaneous stormwater tasks or assist other departments within Public Works.
This position will be required to work weekends and summer holidays.
Requirements
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of the hazards of the work and OSHA safety requirements.
Working knowledge of traffic laws, ordinances, and regulations regarding the operation of town vehicles and equipment. This includes but is not limited to leaf blowers, push mowers, vacuum equipment.
Ability to prepare electronic or written records.
Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
Ability to work in all types of weather.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, and capable of repetitive motions.
Must be able to perform manual work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 20 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly.
Must possess the visual acuity to operate a motorized equipment and distinguish traffic patterns to avoid injury to self and others.
Desirable Education and Experience
Graduation from high school and some experience in the operation of motorized vehicles; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirement
Possess a valid North Carolina driver's license.
