Seasonal Waterfront Ranger (Part-Time)
JOB GOAL:
This is a seasonal/summertime/part-time position to support the Town of Yarmouth Harbor
Master during the busy months of June into September, pending availability. The selected
Employee should be interested in boating and marine-related activities and/or hold experience
around the water. The start and end dates will be fluid based on the season and the needs of the
Yarmouth Police Department.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Provide assistance to the Town of Yarmouth Harbor Master with Yarmouth waterfront
- Typical duties will include assisting the public as needed with inquiries and questions.
- Support parking enforcement as trained.
- Maintain dinghies, docks and other equipment along the waterfront.
- May assist with coverage during any absence of the Harbor Master.
- Act in an appropriate manner as a representative of the Yarmouth Police Department and the
Visitors and the Community as needed.
- Follow all laws in an appropriate manner when operating a town vehicle or when operating
- Special projects as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
- Possess, or be able to acquire by time of hire, a valid Maine Driver's License in good standing,
- Excellent communication skills and a willingness to work with the public.
- Be highly motivated and community oriented.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work various shifts as scheduled, primarily weekdays or weekends; outdoor environments on the
shoreline, waterfront or on an assigned Town property (parking lots, etc.); may work during in inclement
weather conditions; may run or walk briskly, walking, crawling, climbing, stooping, lifting or sitting for
periods of time; may operate a vehicle or boat; will be in continual movement. This position may
infrequently work within an office environment if needed; will primarily work outdoors during the
summertime months for scheduled periods of time/shifts.

Physical Demands: Primary function will require maintaining physical condition necessary for
sufficient mobility to work in an outdoor setting; walk, stand, sit, or ongoing movement for prolonged
periods of time; occasionally stoop or bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; may need to occasionally
climb, use balance, push, pull, lift, and/or carry light to moderate weights; p r o v i d e a s s i s t a n c e
t o o c c a s i o n a l l y l i f t a n d / o r m o v e moderate to heavy weight occasionally as needed.
Employee(s) in this position will wear an issued polo shirt while working and representing the
Yarmouth Police Department. Safe and frequent ability to operate a motor vehicle to travel within the
Town’s locations as needed; operation of vehicle in a safe manner which observes all motor vehicle
laws and which represents the Town of Yarmouth Police Department to the public. Ability to
communicate verbally to exchange information; provide outstanding customer service to residents and
visitors; normal visual range with or without correction; vision sufficient to o p e r a t e
e q u i p m e n t , read computer screens o r printed documents; hear in the normal audio range
with or without correction.
