Summary
The Recreation Coordinator (Programs) supports Zionsville Parks and Recreation through planning, developing, and implementing outdoor recreation programs that range in scope and target audience. Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to sports, fitness, cultural activities, programs and classes. This is a 24-hour/week position with occasional weekend and evening hours.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, and implement diversified outdoor recreation programs and services for all ages in accordance with community needs.
- Recruit, schedule, evaluate, and train seasonal staff, instructors, and volunteers.
- Evaluate existing and proposed programs, costs and facilities and makes recommendations for improvement, continued use and/or inclusion in recreation services.
- Perform administrative duties, including, but not limited to; managing program registration and participation, tracking program budgets, purchasing, and keeping equipment and supply inventory updated.
- Communicate and coordinate needs and adhere to deadlines with internal departments and outside contractors/agencies.
- Pursue and maintain partnership opportunities with local organizations and businesses.
- Provide exceptional customer service, both internally and externally.
- Carries out duties and responsibilities in a safe and efficient manner
- Keeps direct supervisor promptly informed of key/significant issues or concerns.
- Assist with Zionsville Parks and Recreation special events and outreach as needed.
- Performs related duties as assigned or apparent.
Qualifications
- BS or BA in recreation, physical education, or related field and a minimum of two (2) years of experience in recreation, fitness/wellness programs or event operations.
- Experience working with summer camps and/or fitness certifications a plus.
- Must be 21 years or older and possess a valid driver’s license and must remain insurable through the Town of Zionsville's insurance carrier.
- Strong time management, communication, organizational and planning abilities.
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with co-workers, volunteers, and the public, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, culture, and abilities.
- Ability to work alone with minimum supervision and with others in a team environment.
- Ability to work under sometimes stressful and/or difficult situations.
- Ability to work on multiple projects at one time.
- Strong leadership skills and confidence in decision-making and clear delegation.
- Current first aid/CPR certification or ability to be certified.
- Regular and predictable attendances is expected and required.
Working Conditions
- The position must be prepared to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings, weekends and/or holidays as required.
- This position requires the ability to work outdoors in a variety of natural terrains and weather conditions.
- The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, extreme heat or cold, snow, sleet, ice, wind.
Physical Requirements
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to walk, sit, talk, hear, finger dexterity, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, and bend over. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
