What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal Recreation Services Assistant position at Town of Zionsville?
Job Purpose
The Recreation Services Assistant supports nature and recreation-based programming efforts in Zionsville through educational programs, camps, special events, Zionsville Nature Center operations and other duties as assigned. Recreation Services Assistants may work with all age groups in the community and job tasks may highlight environmental education, outdoor recreation, community outreach or nature center facility/program support.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides outdoor recreation and educational programs that serve to enhance the Zionsville Parks and Recreation mission and to promote environmental education and conservation.
- Assists with outdoor recreation and environmental education programs within the Zionsville Parks and at off-site locations.
- Develops outdoor activities for different age groups. This includes programming, set-up, and supervision, clean-up, inventory, evaluation, and follow-up.
- Assists in maintaining and prepping equipment and program materials.
- Greets and engages visitors at the Zionsville Nature Center; articulate the Department’s mission and project a helpful and positive attitude when interacting with the public.
- Participates in special events or projects as assigned.
- Demonstrated organizational skills including verbal communication, problem solving, and conflict management.
- Keeps direct supervisor promptly informed of key/significant issues or concerns.
- Carries out duties and responsibilities in a safe and efficient manner to maintain a safe work environment and surrounding area for oneself, co-workers and public.
- Performs light maintenance functions.
- Performs related duties as assigned or apparent.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 16 years old and possess a valid driver’s license and personal transportation.
- Must have a strong interest in environmental education, outdoor recreation, natural resources, or related discipline.
- Enthusiastic, outgoing, patient, and flexible when working with children and adults.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders, including employees and the public.
- Ability to speak and write clearly, concisely, and persuasively using correct grammar, spelling and punctuation with ability to communicate one-on-one or in group settings.
- Ability to perform work with a high degree of accuracy and organization.
- Ability to work cooperatively with others.
- Ability to perform with considerable independence and initiative.
- Current first aid/CPR certification or training provided for employee if not currently certified.
- Regular and predictable attendances is expected and required. All employees must be prepared to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends and/or holidays as required.
Working Conditions
- The position will require some weekend work, evening hours
- This position requires the ability to work outdoors in a variety of natural terrains and weather conditions.
- The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, extreme heat or cold, snow, sleet, ice, wind.
Physical Requirements
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to walk, sit, talk, hear, finger dexterity, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms and bend over. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
