Townsen Memorial Hospital is looking for a Infection Preventionist to join our newest location in Bellaire, TX!
The Infection Preventionist is responsible for ensuring adherence to strict infection control protocols throughout our health system by preventing the spread of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs). This position performs hospital-wide
surveillance and data collection, investigates possible incidences of infection and implements remedial action.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assist Infection Prevention Manager in monitoring and implementing evidence-based infection prevention and control practices and guidelines system wide.
- Round and monitor weekly in-patients, operating rooms, Endoscopy, Pre-Op, and PACU to assure proper cleaning and disinfection of areas and patient diagnostic equipment, such endoscopes.
- Monitor and surveillance of potential CAUTI and CLABSI hospital acquired infections.
- Ensure proper handling and disposal of potential infectious medical waste.
- Monitor weekly hand hygiene compliance and reporting utilizing secret shoppers as needed.
- Track potential Surgical Site Infections at HOPD locations.
- Monitor and report any opportunities in infection control protocols.
- Participate in infection prevention education and training programs.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all infection prevention activities.
- Educate staff on how to prevent and control infections.
- Inform appropriate state and county organizations of any reportable infections and diseases.
- Perform other infection control duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Basic Microsoft Office skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to perform other administrative duties as assigned to support quality programs across the system.
- Ability to apply solid understanding of infection control principles.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Associate’s degree in health-related field
- Two (2) years of experience in an acute care or public health setting
- Current and unencumbered RN license in the State of Texas
- Certification in Infection Control (CIC) certified from the CBIC
