Medical Assistant

Townsen Memorial Surgery Center is hiring for a full-time Medical Assistant to join our location in Spring, TX.

The Medical Assistant is responsible for a variety of patient care, technical, and clerical related functions. The Medical Assistant is responsible for the Surgery Center patient flow by assisting members of the care team and providing a broad

range of health care services. The Medical Assistant offers exceptional patient service, both in person and over the phone. This position interviews patients, and obtains complete and accurate demographic, financial, and insurance information.

Essential Functions

Medical Assistant

• Escorts Patient to exam room and prepare for physical evaluation by obtaining vital signs.
• Conducts patient interview to obtain medical history including past medical and surgical history, allergies, medications, and present condition.
• Verifies all paperwork is complete and place demographic label in chart.
• Reviews chart for completeness and accuracy by ensuring all pertinent studies/diagnostics are available and last physician note is in chart.
• Triage phone messages
• Responsible for keeping anesthesia doctor updated on upcoming procedures and surgeries the week before and providing updated schedule with the doctors & surgery start times.
• Assist nursing staff with confirming patients' appointment and providing pre-op instruction.
• Pre-admitting patients before taken to pre-op, interview the patient to obtain medical history, allergies and medications.
• Direct patient to preop and give them instructions of what garments need to be removed
• Assist nursing staff with cleaning and stocking clinical areas with adequate medical supplies
• Responds and comply to requests for information including sending faxes and e-mails
• Prepares and ensures availability of patient stretchers to ensure consistent workflow
  
  

Clinical Receptionist

• Assist with management of daily clinic operations including ensuring the surgery center is open and closed in a timely manner
• Greet patients as they arrive to facility and provide them with appropriate information
• Assist patients in completing all necessary forms and documentation
• Ensure completeness and accuracy of patients’ forms and logs including all demographics in EMR system
• Update patients’ information in EMR system and all related records
• Keep patient appointment on schedule by notifying provider of patients’ arrival
• Answer telephone, route calls when appropriate, and answer inquires
• Maintains patient accounts by obtaining, recording, and updating personal and financial information
• Call patients to remind them of appointments
• Schedule and reschedule patients’ appointments
• Coordinate mail flow in and out of the office
• Ensure reception area is well maintained, neat and clean, including magazines
  
  

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

• Strong computer knowledge including proficiency with MS Outlook, Word, and Excel
• Strong attention to detail
• Exceptional customer service and phone etiquette
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  
  

Education And Experience

• High School Diploma or GED
• One (1) year of experience in a clinical setting
• Valid Texas Driver’s License
• Current BLS
