Position Summary
A Climber uses sophisticated climbing and rigging techniques to cut away dead or excess branches from trees or shrubs to maintain right-of-way for roads, sidewalks, or utilities. This position improves the appearance, health, and value of trees. As a Climber, you will prune / treat trees or shrubs using handsaws, hand pruners, clippers, and power pruners. You will work off the ground in the tree canopy in this position and may use truck-mounted lifts.
Duties and Responsibilities Include
Essential Duties :
- Cuts away dead and excess branches from trees
- Clears branches around power lines, using climbing equipment or buckets of extended truck booms
- Cables, braces, ties, bolts, stakes, and guides trees and branches to provide support
- Cleans, sharpens, and lubricates tools and equipment
- Inspects trees to determine if they have diseases or pest problems
- Supervises others engaged in tree trimming work and trains lower-level employees
- Operates boom trucks, stump chippers, brush chippers, power saws, sprayers, and other equipment
- Prunes, cuts down, fertilizes, and sprays trees as directed by tree surgeons
- Transplants and removes trees and shrubs and prepares trees for moving
