POSITION SUMMARY
The Upper St. Clair Community & Recreation Center provides our members and guests with a comprehensive range of recreation services including: fitness programs, swim programs (indoor and outdoor), summer camps, youth programs, older adult programs, and more.
The Part-Time Group Exercise Instructor works under the supervision of the Group Exercise Coordinator and is responsible for preparing and instructing quality group exercise classes for all members and guests in a fun and safe atmosphere. The Part-Time Group Exercise Instructor will also be expected to provide quality customer services and be capable of providing general department and facility information to inquiring members.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibility
- Promote health & wellness as a representative of parks & recreation.
- Promote the development of a healthy self-image.
- Ensures all technical equipment is safe for participant use prior to class and all equipment is stored in designated areas at completion of class.
- Provides members and guests with a well-prepared class including modifications for all fitness levels.
- Educate members and guests on exercise class area policies, procedures and conduct.
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of class participation information for payroll and class participation data collection purposes.
- Maintain current training certifications through continuing education programs.
- Resolves complaints and violations of facility rules by members and guests.
- Works cooperatively with visitors and employees.
- Attend and participate in meetings as required.
- Always promote health and fitness and the Community & Recreation Center in a positive manner.
QUALIFICATIONS
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledgeable of basic and advanced fitness information.
- Ability to create quality client-specific exercise routines.
- Must be competent in one-on-one to small group training, and exercise program development.
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate orally by speaking clear and fluent English.
- Problem solving skills, as the employee must be able to resolve discrepancies and answer questions from members and employees tactfully and courteously.
- Ability to perform well in a family oriented service-environment in a recreation setting.
- Ability to work days, evenings, weekends and holidays.
Education and Experience
- Degree in exercise science or wellness-related field is preferred.
- Nationally accredited training certification (AFAA, ACE, PhiPilates, etc.), and 1 or more years experience working as a group exercise instructor.
- Current First Aid, CPR and AED certification.
EQUIPMENT USED
- The Part-Time Group Exercise Instructor must be familiar with and be able to demonstrate the use of all group exercise equipment located in the fitness studios including but not limited to dumbbells, jump ropes, aerobic steps, kettlebells, stability balls, bosu balls, and audio equipment.
