Toyoda Gosei North America (headquartered in Troy, MI) has an opening for a Sled Test Technician within the TGRTC Team. TGRTCs Sled Team provides industry-leading crash simulation testing to a wide range of customers, supporting OEM vehicle development, component testing, and internal research and development. The Sled Test Technician role functions under the direction of the Crash Safety Manager and is responsible for the preparation, setup, and execution of crash sled tests. TGRTCs Sled Team supports automotive safety testing for internal and external clients by re-creating barrier crash events using a state-of-the-art hydraulic servo sled ensuring high-quality data collection for the advancement of new technologies and Safety Systems for Toyoda Gosei North America Corporation (TGNA), and TGNA Manufacturing Companies (NAMCs).
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with or perform pre-test setup, including installation of dash and interior components, car seats, and airbags or safety devices.
- Utilize coordinate measurement tools such as FARO arms to assist in positioning of crash test dummies (ATDs) in accordance with customer requirements.
- Complete pre- and post-test tasks, including photos and associated documentation such as check sheets and ATD forms.
- Meticulously follow established work instructions and test procedures, and assist in creating additional procedures or protocols as needed.
- Maintain high level of organization of pre- and post-test components and equipment, and assist in coordination with customers to manage part inventories.
- Assist and actively participate in maintaining a clean and safe test lab environment by adhering to 5S principles.
- Work collaboratively and professionally with Sled Team as well as internal and external customers to meet laboratory testing objectives.
Qualifications and Competencies
- Associates Degree in Engineering Technology or similar educational experience is preferred.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a related discipline or a combination of education and experience.
- Experience with mechanical and electrical systems, instruments, and calibration.
- Mechanically inclined, with proficiency with a wide variety of hand and power tools is required.
- Ability to read and understand engineering test plans, specifications, and testing principles and procedures.
- Exceptional attention to detail, problem solving, and analytical and organizational skills are required.
- Demonstrates team orientation with strong integrity and professionalism.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel is required.
