Your team and your responsibilities
Team/division description
The Materials Engineering division in Toyota Motor Europe is responsible for the research and development of new materials and analytical techniques for emerging technologies. Particularly, we examine topics which work towards reducing the environmental impact of our vehicles. One of our key topics is the development of sustainable fuels, such as green (solar) hydrogen through photocatalytic and photoelectrochemical methods.
Our team aims at searching for and integrating European unique and advanced technology into final products to strengthen Toyota’s future products.
Your project
We are now offering a position to develop semiconductors for photocatalytic and photoelectrochemical water splitting (hydrogen production) as part of a European-funded project, PH2OTOGEN.
The activity will include:
- Preparation of nanomaterials and deposition as thin films
- Development of co-catalysts to promote hydrogen evolution and oxidation reactions
- Photoelectrochemical and photocatalytic testing under simulated solar irradiation
- Characterisation through UV-vis spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction etc.
- Literature survey and discussion with our collaborators
Your Profile
- You are fluent in English (TME’s business language)
- Master student (preferably: Chemical / Electrochemical / Materials Science or Engineering)
- Good knowledge in electrochemistry and material science
- Interest in sustainable technology

Due to business requirement, not all performed projects can be reflected in the internship report. This issue needs to be discussed with candidate/school in advance.
It is mandatory that applicants are students for the entire period of the internship.
