Job summary
A cashier deals with receiving payments from customers that had their vehicles repaired, maintained, or those who have bought parts inventory. An automotive cashier handles transactions with regard to anything that is being sold parts and service. This position is also responsible of answering calls, and as back-up to the receptionist.
Responsibilities and duties
The cashier is responsible for keeping the keys of the vehicle that is being repaired or serviced. They record all the payments done. It is a must the cashier to know about the necessary computer applications and programs that they will frequently use in inputting and retrieving certain information about the customers. The cashier explains the vehicle service recommendations to customers, print out or write up estimates and invoices, and accept payment for the work once finished. While vehicles are being serviced, the cashier is responsible for all of the keys. Automotive cashier record the amount of payment and close the repair orders in the computer system. The cashier must learn specific software programs to input and retrieve information. The service department keep track of purchased or serviced vehicles in a database, and the cashier updates the customer's service history. On occasions, may need to calculate materials charges, repair charges and taxes. There should be some understanding of the various types of warranties.
Qualifications and skills
Must be friendly and good communication skills is a must. Must possess some basic Mathematics and computer programs qualities. Multi-tasking skills are a plus. Must be able to stand for many hours. Applicants are expected to have a high school diploma or an equivalent, and a driver’s license.
Cashiers may sometimes handle customer complaints either on the phone or in person. If anyone complains that his vehicle was not serviced properly, the cashier must respond with concern and according to the company guidelines. She must ensure that all complaints are handled promptly and directed to the correct associate.
Cashiers receive deposits and full payments on purchases and for extended warranties. Cashiers prepare receipts and deliver records to the accounting department. They also keep track of any recall orders serviced.
