What are the responsibilities and job description for the Experienced Fire Protection Service Technician position at TP Mechanical Contractors?

Position(s) Summary: Responsible for daily Service work. Work includes inspection testing and repairs of fire protection systems including Alarm, Extinguishers, Specialty Suppression, Kitchen hood, Fire Sprinkler Systems, Backflows, Emergency and Exit lighting. Applicant should be able to read and understand blueprints, reports, building safety plans and communicate effectively with all other persons on the job-site, including our sub-contractors, and represent TP Mechanical Contractors in a professional manner. Applicant should also be able to accept direction and/or lead and delegate the work if necessary.
Responsibilities and Duties:
· Troubleshoot and solve fire protection system problems.
·Can work independently with little direction and can solve problems (i.e., contacting factory, engineer, architect, foreman, etc.).
· Attends, if needed, all job site and office meetings related to assigned projects.
· Is well prepared to handle issues that may come up.
·Fills out all forms, revisions, requests for tools/equipment/material that are required for each project.
·Dependable and able to work in emergency situations when called.
·Has the ability to identify and locate parts/suppliers.
·Conduct routine inspections and testing of fire sprinkler systems in commercial, industrial, and residential properties.
·Ensure compliance with relevant fire codes, safety standards, and manufacturer’s requirements.
·Identify and document any deficiencies, impairments, or code violations within the fire sprinkler systems.
·Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on systems as needed.
·Create detailed inspection reports outlining findings, actions taken, and recommendations for corrective measures.
·Communicate with building owners, managers, and contractors to discuss inspection findings and remediation plans.
·Keep accurate records of inspections, maintenance, and repairs performed.
·Stay up to date with changes in fire codes and industry standards.
·Participate in training programs and obtain required certifications to maintain qualifications.
·Assist in developing and implementing inspection schedules and maintenance programs.
Qualifications and Experience:
1. Experience/Qualifications Required:
·10 years commercial experience in the fire protection industry.
Installations, Inspections, Testing, Maintaining - Alarm, Sprinkler, Kitchen hood & Suppression Systems.
·Stable work history.
·State Fire Protection Certification/License(s)
·Ohio Backflow Certification (is a plus)
2. Education:
· High School or GED Equivalent
· OSHA 10 or 30
·Trade School or Apprenticeship a plus
3. Physical Requirements:
· Eyesight correctable to 20/50
·Able to work long hours on feet.
·Able to lift and climb ladders and scaffolds
·Able to perform shift work
·Must be able to lift objects weighing up to 60 lbs.
·Must be able to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
·Able to work from heights above 20ft.
4. Special Requirements:
·Valid Driver’s License
·Must provide their own basic hand tools
5. Job Skills:
·Knowledge of operations of fire protection systems.
·Strong knowledge of building and NFPA Codes
·Working knowledge of all hand and power tools.
·Able to install, repair and replace equipment.
·Works within precise limits or standards of accuracy and productivity.
·Exceptional communication skills.
·Good organizational skills.
·Strong computer skills including daily e-mails, on-line inspection reports, Excel & PDFs, Etc.
